Background and Rationale

By the end of lesson, students will be able to analyze texts effectively

in order to determine the point of view, purpose, and content.
Critical academic language will be used such as, analyzation,
observed, determined, textual evidence, etc.
Prior to this lesson, students will have learned and correctly perform
textual-based annotations. This prior knowledge will help students to
collaborate in group assignments when trying to give input on how to
analyze the structure of text.

Procedures and Timeline

Introduction:
In order to introduce the lesson to students, a Do-Now will be
on the projector as the students enter the classroom. A Do-Now is a
lesson-starter used at the beginning of class to get students engaged.
The Do Now will be a simple question, for example, How important is
it that we analyze text (an essay, article, a speech) line-by-line?
Explain. This question will cause the students to think about how
important analyzation is and will eventually prepare their minds for the
lesson.
Procedure:
DAY 1 (55min):
o Teacher proposes Do-Now prompt (1 min)
o Student responds (7 minutes)
o Teacher re-introduces lesson, explains the importance of the
structure of text (15 mins)
o Students takes Cornell notes during lecture
o Teacher explains instructions
o Instructs students to begin read instructions and begin to follow
instructions (links to Kidblog is provided) (25 mins)

Assessment Evidence
For assessment, students will analyze text and answer textual based
questions and questions on cause, effect, compare, and contrast, problem,
solution, and sequence. The textual based questions will be clear and
concise, but the complexity will derive from asking the students why they
chose their answer and what textual evidence will support their reasoning.
Sample

Students are to create a Prezi Presentation, based on the text

given. Students are to provide the main idea and the evidence
that led them to finding the main idea. This section can be
creative, pictures and clip art can be included. A very basic
example has been provided. Follow the hyperlink to view the
example Prezi.
