Generalizability Assignment
Generalizability Theory
Research can be done using many theories and all of them have their pros and cons as to
how they can be useful for the testing that needs to be performed. When error and dependability
need to be found and understood the clear choice for research would be to use the
Generalizability theory to guide the process. This theory has many advantages that can help
guide further research and even further practice to ensure the bets outcomes possible with the
When looking at how to test reliability within a study there are a few options that you can

choose from. One of them includes the generalizability theory or G theory. This theory is used in

situations where a more complex analysis of assessments is needed to be performed (Yudkowsky

et al., 2020). This theory is commonly used within healthcare education to examine multiple
ou urc
points of a study that is being done. When using G theory, it is possible to look at the different
facets that are present and understand that each of them can cause a variance within the

observation at any time. Due to the fact that the theory is expecting these errors to occur it takes
vi y re
them into consideration and factors them into the final observation of the study and how they

have altered the final result that has been yielded (Yudkowsky et al., 2020). When looking at a

study that has been performed with this theory an important concept to include is the concept of
dependability. Within the context of a G study dependability means that there is accuracy

involved when generalizing from a score that was achieved to assume that if repeated again and

again the same score would be obtained again and again (Yudkowsky et al., 2020). To give a
sh
short explanation it means that predictions are being made on past observations. The next step in
G theory is to look at the way the model was designed. Within G theory the model was created to
measure the performance of the participants which means that the participants are the objects that

are being measured within the study (Yudkowsky et al., 2020). The different facets of the study
then have to be defined and understood as to whether they are fixed or random. When a facet is
considered random this means that the values that are observed are considered a sample from a
larger population size (Yudkowsky et al., 2020). Next the study results will be obtained. Once the
results are obtained, they are considered variance components, which estimate the variability of
When looking at when it is appropriate to use G theory it is important to note that it can
be used to test the reliability of the data that is generated and it can also show the accuracy of the
