PROJECTS HANDLED

Project - #1

Title : Street Light Controller (Light Sensor Using 555 timer IC)
Duration : (Jul’09-Oct’09)

Description :
The project presents the modern street lighting control systems with microcontroller AC
regulator for lighting applications. The system makes it possible to accurately control and monitor
the lighting. The control cabinets are online all the time; the solution guarantees energy savings,
due to the dimming option, traffic safety and lighting comfort. The basic idea of the system is for a
group of street lights, typically for a stretch of road, to be controlled by a lighting office. The
remote streetlight monitoring and control system has been applied in urban streetlight. In general,
this system monitoring and control scope only reaches the streetlight transformer station. In this
work, an experimental system of wireless sensor network was developed to study the feasibility for
streetlight monitoring and control system. This system consists of the sensor node, the remote
terminal unit and the control center. The sensor node was installed at each lamp pole and used to
detect and control lamp. The remote terminal unit serves as relay station between the control center
and the sensor nodes. The control-center monitors and controls all streetlight in real time. The
hardware of sensor node and remote terminal unit was design. The software was developed for
sensor node, remote terminal unit and the control center. The multi-hop used in nodes. The test
results show that the system can be used for the streetlight control. The system application in
streetlight can extend control scope to each lamp, there by reducing streetlight electricity and
maintenance cost, and increase longevity of streetlight.

Title : Wireless Video Monitoring System

Duration : (Jan’10 – Apr’10)
Tools : C/C++
Description :
In this project there is one base station and three wireless monitoring systems, in the
monitoring system a wireless camera is installed on rotating tower. The rotating tower is designed
with a micro controller based stepper motor driver. The stepper motor driver drives the camera base
in steps. There are two guide bars placed at the extreme ends of the camera position. The wireless
camera is fixed on the top of the tower, to limit the viewing angle the camera rotation or movement
is restricted to a limited.

Project Goals :
• Traffic monitoring
• Industrial processes(place under dangerous conditions for humans are today often
supervised by these means)

TECHNICAL SEMINARS

Seminar #1
(Oct’09)

Title: Ad-Hoc Networking

Description:
A wireless ad hoc network is a decentralized wireless network. The network is ad hoc
because it does not rely on a preexisting infrastructure, such as routers in wired networks or access points in
managed (infrastructure) wireless networks. Instead, each node participates in routing by forwarding data
for other nodes, and so the determination of which nodes forward data is made dynamically based on the
network connectivity. An ad-hoc network is made up of multiple “nodes” connected by “links”. The
decentralized nature of wireless ad hoc networks makes them suitable for a variety of applications where
central nodes can't be relied on, and may improve the scalability of wireless ad hoc networks compared to
wireless managed networks.

Title: WAP (Wireless Application Protocol)

Description:
Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) is an enabling technology based on the Internet client
server architecture model, for transmission and presentation of information from the World Wide Web
(WWW) and other applications utilizing the Internet Protocol (IP) to a mobile phone or other wireless
terminal.
The WAP protocol stack consists of the following (From top to bottom):

• Application layer
• Session layer
• Transaction layer
• Security layer
• Transport layer
• Network layer

ACHIEVEMENTS
• I had top 10 students of my branch for 3 consecutive semester examinations.
• I lead the peripheral development initiative of my institute (i.e. student coordinators in campus
drives & other cultural activities.)
