Anti-Sludge Additive

DESCRIPTION

Anti-Sludge Additive is a surfactant-based, anionic anti-sludge agent that prevents asphalt sludge and
emulsions from forming when treating with hydrochloric (HCl) acid. Anti-Sludge Additive helps to promote
the rapid return of the treating fluid to the wellbore after the acid treatment.

APPLICATION

Asphaltenes are present in crude oil in the form of a colloidal dispersion, which consists of a combination
of polyaromatic molecules surrounded by lower molecular weight neutral resins and paraffinic
hydrocarbons. Strong acids, such as HCL, destabilize the dispersion and cause asphaltene precipitates
and rigid film emulsions to form. This insoluble asphaltic sludge becomes stabilized in the presence of both
ferric and ferrous iron. Anti-sludge agents work by stabilizing the colloidal dispersion and preventing the
asphaltene precipitates from forming at the crude oil/acid interfaces. Anti-Sludge Additive is effective in
most producing formations. Testing of crude oil samples is required to select the appropriate concentration.

ADVANTAGES

• Prevents asphalt sludge and emulsions from forming.

• Promotes rapid return of treating fluid.
• Effective in most producing formations.
