cousins and aunts and uncle. The wedding was in a fancy hotel and there

Jack: We went camping in Cornwall for a week. Luckily, it didn’t rain! I

tried caving for the first time. It was really exciting! I went surfing,
too. It was a great holiday!

Nancy: I went to an activity camp in my town. Every day we did

different activities. We played mini-golf and we had barbecues. When

In my house, we try to “be green”. That means we try to help the

turn off the tap. And when I help my dad wash the car, we always
fill up a bucket. We never use hosepipe. And before I turn on the
dishwasher, I always make sure it’s full.

We save energy, too! In the winter, we don’t turn up the central

heating – we put on jumpers instead. And we try not to waste food.
We usually put leftovers in the fridge, and eat them the next day!

 Read the next paragraph then answer the following

questions:

 Nancy’s blog:

Do you bite your nails when you’re nervous? Or clap your hands when
you’re excited? Perhaps you scratch your head when you’re
confused? You can tell how a person is feeling by looking at their
body language.

Today in our art class, we learned how to draw body language. For
example, a confident person stands up straight, with their shoulders
back. If a person is proud, draw a small smile and lift the chin up! A
disappointed person looks down, and has a small mouth. Someone who
is bored might rest chin in their hand.

Faces are fun, too! A curios face has eyes looking up and to the side.
A face with low eyebrows and pink cheeks may look embarrassed. To
draw a jealous face, draw small eyes looking to one side, with the
eyebrows low. Try it! Cartoons are fun!

we want to tell someone else what the first person said.

direct speech: 'I work in a bank,' said Daniel.

past (e.g. worked) than the tense originally used (e.g. work). This is
called 'backshift'.
