Tenun Pagatan

Good Morning everyone I would like to introduce my team, firstly my name is

edward louis, I’am Aulia Rahmah, I’am Sandra Waworuntu we are students from
Smkn 2 Simpang Empat, My beloved teacher,friends and audience Thank You
very much for this opportunity.Today, I’m going to be talking about our local
culture that is traditional cloth, in fact our country has many kinds of traditional cloth
but at this moment I want to introduce one of them, Namely Tenun Pagatan, this is
traditional cloth from south Kalimantan precisely in Pagatan Tanah Bumbu, that has
been existed since the mid 18th century ago.

This is important because I want to share about our local culture, that not many
people know about it, as young generation it is our duty to promote our local culture

The main point we will be talking about there are three things :
Firts one is about who made Tenun Pagatan
Second one is about and the materials of Tenun Pagatan
And the Last is about the things or product thst can be made from Tenun Pagatan

I’d like to start by the first point that is who made Tenun Pagatan.
Do you ever see the weavers? I thought most of them will be the elders. Well, three
weeks ago we had an opportunity to visit tenun pagatan weaving’s place. In the way
we got there we imagine that we will met with the elders, but when we arrived we was
so suprised because we saw a lot of young people just like us. They made tenun
pagatan together. Then we asked one of the weavers, “why they choose young
people?” and he told us that this is one of the action to present tenun pagatan to young
generation, not only know about the stuff but also about the process in the making of
tenun pagatan. This is really good ways to increase desire to maintain our local
culture

Now let’s we move on to the second one. There are three things of materials for
making tenung pagatan. The first one is silk yarn which is the best quality of materials
for making tenun pagatan, the second is samarinda yarn, and then singapore yarn.
Tenun pagatan is original handmade, and they only used traditional tools.

And the last point, do you know this tenun pagatan can be anything? Well, for
example you can make cloths not only for formal but also for informal event, and also
tenun pagatan can be a handbag, head covering, sarong, and many more. Even you
can match your cloth and your handbag with the unique motifs of tenun pagatan.
Tenun pagatan has a lot of motifs and of course it have a meaning, for example is like
boat or coconut motifs, actually many more and that can be requested. but boat or
coconut are a source of livelihood typical of pagatan community.

In conclusion of our presentation is tenun pagatan come from south kalimantan in

tanah bumbu. Tenun pagatan was made by young people and they use the good
quality of materials eventhough they only use traditional tools and still using hands
instead of machines. And also Tenun pagatan can be any product that you want such a
handbag, cloths, shawl and others
So based on the materials used, absolutely its comfortable to wearing with quality that
is certainly good and worth it. As young people today you can still looks stylish and
also preserving indonesia culture.I’m not saying this is better than other’s fabrics, but
I guaranteed if you start using it you won’t regret it. Being different is interesting, its
not a shame to wear our local product, because tenun pagatan also have a social,
economic, and of course culture values. Just imagine if you wear this tenun pagatan,
you carry of our culture wherever you go, that should be very cool. So we as young
generation should development our local culture, and you also can help us to make it
true.
