SYNOPSIS
The last 10 - 15 years have seen a considerablenumberof refurbishmentschemesthat have requiredfull facade
retentionsystemsduring construction. There is a generallack of guidelinesavailableon the designof these
temporarywork structures. This paperaims to suggesta method of designwhich basicallyinvolveslookingat the
two principalstagesinvolved: the developmentof a performancespecificationby the Consultantand the detailed
design of the system itself by the Contractor.
