2.0 LIQUEFACTION SUSCEPTIBILITY ASSESSMENT:

As per IS:1893, Part-I, 2016, In soil deposits consisting of submerged loose sands and
soils falling under classification SP with standard penetration N-values less than 15 in
seismic Zones III, IV, V and less than 10 in seismic Zone II, the vibration caused by
earthquake may cause liquefaction or excessive total and differential settlements. Such
sites should preferably be avoided while locating new settlements or important projects.
Otherwise, this aspect of the problem needs to be investigated and appropriate methods
of compaction or stabilization adopted to achieve suitable N-values as indicated in Note
3 under Table 1. i.e.
For Seismic Zone, III, IV &V, Corrected N value should be > 15 for 0.0 – 5.0 m depth.
Corrected N value should be > 25 for 5.0 – 10.0 m depth
For 5.0 -10.0 m depth, the corrected N value should be interpolated from above.
Alternatively, deep pile foundation may be provided and taken to depths well into the
layer which is not likely to liquefy.
Marine clays and other sensitive clays are also known to liquefy due to collapse of soil
structure and will need special treatment according to site condition.

SECTION OF CORRIDOR-1, PHASE-1 OF AGRA METRO AT AGRA, UTTAR
PRADESH, INDIA.

In present case, the site falls in earthquake zone – III and the subsoil encountered is
mostly of classification ML, SM, CL & CI with Intermediate layers of ML-CL.
The ground water level was encountered at 30.15m to 31.05m depth in boreholes and
considered 20.0m depth for analysis.
Liquefaction analysis as per IS: 1893, Part-I, 2016 is attached herewith.
Viewing the type of subsoil strata encountered, corrected N values and ground water
condition at site, in light of the susceptibility of liquefaction as specified in IS: 1893,
Part-I, 2016, it may be concluded that the subsoil strata encountered at site shall liquefy
at the location during earthquake.

3.0 RECOMMENDATIONS:

Depending on the field and laboratory observations of subsoil strata, test results and the
type of structures proposed at site, the most feasible soil-foundation system is
recommended as normal bored cast in situ R.C.C. piles foundations of 1.2m diameter at
different depths with cut-off level of 2.30m depth below existing Ground level.
Type of Foundation: Bored Cast in situ RCC Pile
The safe load carrying capacities of these piles are given in following table:-
Bore Dia of Cut-off Length of Safe load carrying capacity, ( T )
Holes No piles, level piles below

Notes:
 For design purpose, effective overburden pressure at pile tip should correspond to pile
length equal to 15 times the diameter.
 The ground water was encountered in the bore holes at depth of 30.15m to 31.05m at
the time of boring activities at site and for design purpose; pile capacity is evaluated
considering water table at 20.0m.

INTERIM REPORT ON GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATION FOR
CONSTRUCTION OF ELEVATED VIADUCT AND 3 NOS. ELEVATED STATIONS

INSTALLATION DRAINAGE, EXTERNAL DEVELOPMENT, FIRE FIGHTING,
FINE DETECTION, E&M WORKS AND PEB STRUCTURES ON PRIORITY
SECTION OF CORRIDOR-1, PHASE-1 OF AGRA METRO AT AGRA, UTTAR
PRADESH, INDIA.

 The above values should be confirmed through Initial pile load tests as per IS: 2911
(Part-IV) in the field before adopting these values for design purposes.
 Frictional angles are restricted to 32o in the pile capacity calculations.
 Bulk density are restricted to 1.00 t/m3 below water table.
 Recommended pile capacities are without deducting the self-weight of piles.
 Permissible lateral deflection equal to 1% of pile diameter.
 It should be ensured that the bottom of the pile bore is cleaned properly before casting
the pile. This is important because the soil particles tend to settle down at the bottom of
the pile bore, which can cause reduction in pile capacities.
 Sufficient initial and routine static pile load tests should be done to ensure that the safe
load on the piles exceeds the design loads. The number of routine pile load tests may be
increased if significant variations are observed. High Strain Dynamic pile load tests
may also be done on selected piles for higher reliability.
 It is also recommended that pile integrity tests (PIT) be carried out on all working piles
installed on site, in order to assess the quality of the pile construction. The PIT results
may be used as a guideline to select the appropriate piles for routine load tests.
 The site falls in earthquake zone –III as per IS: 1893, 2016 and the structure shall be
designed accordingly.

4.0 CLOSURE

We appreciate the opportunity given to us to submit this report. This presented report is
based on observations and tests on samples collected from the boreholes as decided by
the client. In case any difference is noticed in the field subsoil strata and reported
subsoil strata during excavation please contact us before proceeding with further
construction.

Lateral load analysis as per IS 2911

Pile parameters
Diameter of pile, D = 1.20 m
Characteristic strength of concrete (fck) M35 = 35 N/mm2
Elastic modulus of pile material, E 5000 * (fck)^0.5 = 29580 N/mm2
= 29580399 kN/m2
Moment of inertia of pile material, I PI* D^4 / 64 = 0.1017876 m4
EI = 3010918 kNm2
Stiffness factor & Depth of fixity
For soil having constant modulus
Stiffness factor T = (EI/hh)1/5
(From table 3. of reference [9])
Coefficient of subgrade reaction for pile, hh = 1.832 x 103 kN/m3
= 1832 kN/m3
T = 4.397
Free standing length of pile L1 = 0.00 m
L1/T = 0.00 m
As per fig.4 of annexure c of reference [9]
For fixed head pile Lf/T = 2.2 m
Depth of fixity Lf = 9.67 m
Distance of pile from pile cap botttom to length of fixity L = L1 +Lf
L = 9.67 m
3
Deflection at pile head (fixed head condition) y = Q (L1+Lf) /12EI
Permisssible deflection at Cutoff level x = 1% of pile diameter
= 0.012 m
For the allowable deflection at pile cap bottom, the lateral force is = Q
Q = y12EI/((L1+Lf)3)
Q = 478.99 kN
Lateral pile capacity Q = 478.0 kN
or say 47.80 tons
