THESIS PROPOSAL

GENERAL SUBJECT AREA: Filtration

SPECIFIC AREA OF INTEREST: Drainage Basin Management System

Working Title: Efficiency of Automatic Extraction Process of FOG’s in Grease Trap.

I. INTRODUCTION

This study is all about relating to fat, oil, and grease (FOG) in sewer

system have increased. Fats, oil and grease are the main construction of

Grease Trap Waste. The major cause of sewer pipe blockages is FOG and

waste. Expensive treatment for congress as well as household themselves.

Grease trap are installed in the commercial food services such as restaurant

and food processing factories. This study inspects a potential solvent

extraction FOG from the very low quality of Grease Trap Waste.

II. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study will help the community to be enhance their environment

awareness when it comes to water pollution. For the researchers, it will help to

promote and support proper waste management for the environment protection

and health of every individual. It will allow the researchers to enhance the

knowledge of creating the grease trap with automatic extracting system. For

the future researchers, the design and study of grease trap with automatic
extracting system could help in the continuous development related to waste

management, mechanical option, and automation.

III. OBJECTIVES

General Objective

- To design and fabricate a grease trap that has an automatic extraction

system that can remove the fat, oils, and grease (FOG) without hassle.

Specific Objective

- To determine the parameters to be used in the design and fabrication

process of a grease trap with an automatic extraction system.

- To evaluate the performance of the grease trap using direct relationship

between how efficient a grease trap is and the amount of grease inside the

system.

Methodology

The authors describe the methodology of the research, research process,

techniques of the research, data gathering technique, research procedure, and

form of data analysis.

I. Research Design

The researcher held with respect to this dissertation was an applied

one. The research utilizes existing knowledge to provide innovation or

solution basing on the previous research and design with respect to

automatic extraction of FOG’s in grease trap.

MACHINE TESTING
AND DATA GATHERING

The gathered data will be the basis of the parameters in designing and

fabricating the Automatic Extraction of FOG’s in Grease Trap. After the machine

designing and fabricating, the machine is to be tested for the data analysis so that

conclusion and recommendation can be made.

II. Research Method

The previous researchers and design will help the proponents of the study to

design and fabricate a machine in all-in-one process that can removes fats, oils, and

grease, also to determine the parameters to be used in the design and fabrication

process of automatic extraction of FOG’s in grease traps. Machine testing will

evaluate the performance of the continuous flowing of greasy water in terms of

volume of the water with grease, fats, and oils and the collected FOG’s in disposal

container. The comparison of how efficient the automatic extraction of FOG’s by the

fabricated machine to the manual removal of FOG’s will serve as the data analyzation

so that conclusion and recommendation can be made.

Figure III. Proposed process of the system for the automatic extraction of

FOG’s in grease trap.

The proposed process of the system for the automatic extraction of

FOG’s will be using a greasy water from kitchen grease. When the greasy

water enters in the grease trap, first it will go through screen basket. The

wastewater enters grease storage area. The grease gathered will still in a liquid

state stays in storage area. The baffle system reduced the pressure of the

greasy water flowing through the screen basket. The Disk skimmer, a motor

electrically powered device that skims the liquified grease off the tank. The

plastic disk will rotate until it reaches the scraper blades. The grease that

reaches the scraper blade is directly moves into a pipe and drained through a

disposal container. Water will enter the second skim; the water flows through

the removable screen basket that will separates the food scraps and other solid

particles then the water automatically flows to the drainage.

IV. Data processing method

The statistical tool that the researchers will be using is bar graph, it is used to

determine whether there is a significant difference between the means of two groups

to analyze the gathered data. This type of test was chosen to achieve the goal of the

proponents which is to determine the difference between how efficient the automatic

extraction of FOG’s and the manual extraction.
