The circuit below illustrates a relay controlling three lamps indirectly, answer the
following questions:

1. What is the type of switch S1?

S1 is a normally open (make) pushbutton switch.

2. How many relays are there in the circuit?

2 relays

3. What is the meaning of the symbols below circuit 1 and circuit 4?

Symbol below circuit 1: (circuit 1 with relay (K1))

The left side of the symbol (which is a break switch) is numbered 3 and 4
corresponding to the break switch that can be found in circuit 3 and 4. The
right side on the other hand (which is a make switch) is numbered 2 which
corresponds to the make switch in circuit 2.
Symbol below circuit 4: (circuit 4 with relay (K2))
The left side of the symbol (which is a break switch) is numbered 5
corresponding to the break switch that can be found in circuit 5. The right
side on the other hand (which is a make switch) is not numbered which
corresponds to the non-existing make switch.

4. Explain what happens when switch S1 is activated.

This switch closes when actuated and opens when released. Originally only circuit 3 and 4 are lit
up, once I press on S1, circuit 1,2 and 5 lit up and circuit 3 and 4 do not. Once I release from
pressing the switch, the circuit returns to the original condition.
