Dominators

Answer 1. Tim Aston was aware of the power of team spirit and communication and that’s why he was
suggesting team members to open up and discuss their thoughts and ideas for the success of the
project. However, even after realizing the benefits of team spirit and communication at the work place,
he was lacking in team building activities. Team members were not influenced by him to commit to his
project.

Being a new project manager, Tim Aston put lot of efforts to make project management successful. He
was good in resource allocation skills and hired people from outside the team to join the project
management team for improvements which reflects that Tim Aston was a proactive and energetic
manager.

However, Tim was not an effective leader as he was not able to influence his team. In addition to this,
Tim Aston was indecisive and did not make firm decision as a leader. A good leader takes charge of the
situation and influences his subordinates.

Answer 2. Tim Aston was not provided with the required support to lead the project and the entire
team. Instead of advising Tim on team and project management, the project director made excuses why
other employees were reluctant to cooperate. The senior management supported the employees’
attitude mentioning it to be part of the company’s culture as most of the employees worked in the
company for many years. The management did not support him in resource management either. When
Tim selected a hard working and decent accountant with interest in the project management, the
management did not support him.

The attitude of the Employees towards work and achievement of the company goal were negative. It
was the senior management responsibility to address this issue. They should have explained employees
of company’s objectives and their responsibilities to support Tim. Because of this, employees would
have taken managers’ (Tim’s) directives. Lastly, the senior management should have strict rules to take
an action against all employees who violates company’s policy. Leaving work early and no shows for
meetings is a violation of work policy.

Answer 3. First of all, the management should motivate all employees to work towards attaining
company’s goals effectively. The organization should create policies to set targets for all employees and
they should be rewarded once they achieve their set goals in terms of time off and leaves.

This will motivate employees to stick to company’s policy with minimal supervision. For instance, to
avoid cases where employees leave work early without any notification, Tim Aston as a manager should
create a policy that says if workers leave before time every other day then their paid leaves will be
deducted.

In terms of resource allocation, there is need to allocate resources according to priority. Human
resource should be distributed according to qualifications and interests. This way, employees will have a
positive attitude towards work. In addition, there should be delegation of duties for all employees. This
will ensure that all employees become responsible in their respective areas hence meeting all set targets
or goals.
In general, managers should create a workable environment and they should always encourage or
emphasize on the importance of developing communication and teamwork skills. This is because these
elements are very essential for success. To reduce cases of reluctant workers, the management has a big
role in outlining and structuring a clear work policy so that employees can avoid violating work policy,
which slows achievements of organization goals.
