because they imprint on our soul an everlasting seal called “ Character “_

SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION:
1. Baptism 2. Confirmation 3. Holy Eucharist

Each Sacrament gives also a grace proper to itself a special effect on a soul, this is called
“Sacramental Grace”. The Sacraments of Confirmation, Holy Eucharist, Extreme
Unction, Holy Orders, and Matrimony should be received when we are in the state of
grace. Baptism is receive to gain the divine life and Penance to gain or increase it.

To receive the sacraments unworthily is a mortal sin of sacrilege. The Sacraments


always give grace if worthily received because they have their power from the institution
by Christ. The better our disposition, the more divine life can be received.

SACRAMENTS OF DEAD.
1. Baptism and
2. Penance - because they give life of God (Sanctifying grace) to souls which are
spiritually dead through sins.

The other five sacraments are called sacraments of living because they give more graces to souls
which are already alive through the presence of the divine grace.

SACRAMENTS OF HEALING
1. Penance 2. Anointing of the Sick

SACRAMENTS OF LOVE AND SERVICE/VOCATION


1. Holy Orders 2. Matrimony

The importance of the Sacraments in our Christian lives is very great, for through the
Sacraments:

1. Christ gives or makes grow the divine life in us which He merited on the Cross;
2. Christ unites us with Himself
3. Christ makes us lead better catholic lives.
EFFECTS OF THE SACRAMENTS

1. Restoration or increase of sanctifying grace


2. The forgiveness of sins
3. The remission of eternal punishment
4. Help us to avoid sins in the future

SACRAMENTALS_ are sacred signs instituted by the Church. They prepare men to
receive the fruits of the sacraments and to sanctify different circumstances.
It does not give grace immediately as what the sacraments do.
Sacramentals-----are objects, actions, practices, places and the like that help us
become aware of Christ’s grace filled presence around us. They help us
receive the sacraments with greater fruit and render holy various occasions in
life. Like the sacraments, they are sacred signs/ symbols which is realized through
actions of the Church.
