PLANNING

What planning does Honda involve in making decisions related to safety standards?

The first question grounds its approach to the core part of 'planning' associated to their safety
standards. Planning gives more power over the future so Honda decided in advance what to do,
how to do it, when to do it, and who should do it.

HONDA SAFETY RULES:

Honda is one of the best internationally recognized organizations in which it comprises of two or
four wheelers, generators or compressors. But apart from its diversification, all of the elements
lie under the policy i.e. "Honda safety rules". To work efficiently under this policy, there is a
provision of internationally recognized pamphlets, books or various kinds of descriptions which
is changed from time to time as per technological or economic change. These instructions are
planned to be communicated in a way that this policy is followed by everyone to have a better
result.

What mind mapping is involved behind its safety for everyone approach? Is it only related
to vehicle’s safety or does it mean something more?

SAFETY FOR EVERYONE:

The understanding about the approach of "Safety for Everyone" can be elaborated through an
example of Honda's assembly line or production in which they plan to ensure that all the man,
material and machine are always equipped of all of the safety standards, considering these as the
major 3 factors necessary for the safety approach.

INTERNAL SAFETY:

To ensure the machine safety for humans or its employees, every year, Honda is encouraged to
conduct associated audits for every machine to check its authenticity and safety standards so that
they will be able to avoid any discrepancies created by operating the machines. Moreover, under
this approach, Honda emphasizes over its screen safety by ensuring that whenever a wrong
procedure is equipped, all of the safety alarms would inform employees or colleagues to be
aware of forecasted danger. In this way, Honda implements their safety planning. Sometimes,
when press machine starts to be mechanically operated they lose their manual control which may
cause accidents. So, in order to avoid this, they planned to implement a two-hand approach
where both the operators stand on both of the sides of machine, push the button so their body
parts such as hands should be out of the way of that machine.

The planning of these safety standards is not just dependent over the Japan safety pamphlets but
also, they ensure that their policies are linked to local standards or agency so that environmental
safety should also be protected and they would be safe from any scandals of violation claims.

VEHICLE’S SAFETY:

Planning and implementation of safety is not only limited to internal processes but it also ensures
to avoid any road accidents by implementing features such as HondaLink, Airbags or many more
features to emphasize over their safety planning. For example, Honda’s Adaptive Cruise Control
is designed for use in traffic around town, as well as on clear open roads. It consists of radar
technology which detects the speed and distance of vehicles in front and will automatically
decelerate and accelerate your vehicle to maintain a safe following distance. It will automatically
slow down to a complete stop, then accelerate back up to the speed you have set, when the traffic
conditions allow.

These standards proof that Honda has a tremendous planning and features to claim their strategy
of “Safety for Everyone.”
ORGANIZING
There are many strategies that Honda uses in order to organize and promote events related to
improving safety standards.

How does Honda organize promotion events related to the improvement of

safety standards? How does it differ from other manufacturers’ organizing
styles?

SAFETY FOR EVERYONE CAMPAIGN:

One of the recent strategies used by Honda was in the form of organizing a social media
campaign which was named ‘’Safety for Everyone’. The campaign involves showcasing of
Honda customers who escaped serious accidents because of the safety standards of the Honda
vehicles. It includes inspiring stories of Honda customers that Honda gathered from their social
media posts and letters.

Is there any specific time and channel of running their commercials?

ADVERTISEMENTS RELATED TO SAFETY:

Another way in which they promote their safety standards is that they run their commercials
involving safety standards on national cable and network TV. They also make sure to run these
commercials on TV when important sports tournaments are being played in order to attract more
viewers.

Honda states that its safety is for the everyone, how does it prove this statement?

TRAINING PROGRAMS:

Honda also believes in the concept of safe-coexistence, a concept which drives Honda to strive
for a collision-free mobile society. This means that everyone should drive on the road safely and
it does not matter what car the driver is driving. As part of the program, Honda took steps to
promote security for people with disabilities, and it also promoted a Driving Technology
research program which aimed at eliminating serious accidents that take place among teen
drivers. Honda provided Safe driving educational activities at education centers in Brazil and
also started a Motorcycle rider training program for women in India. All of these activities were
initiated by Honda in order to emphasize to the people as to how serious Honda takes the Safety
of its drivers and passengers.
CONTROLLING:
Once the vehicles are driven on the road by the customers, their safety is completely
unpredictable. Human beings make mistakes and there can be several incidents where the
vehicles on the road face a collision. Honda, being dedicated towards their customers’ safety,
takes this matter seriously and controls this problem in such a way that the customers do not get
harmed when they face a collision.

How does Honda control the problem of collisions?

As we might know that road collisions are inevitable and cannot be avoided, but they can be
controlled with their consequences mitigated.

SAFETY CONTROL SYSTEMS:

Honda vehicles possess two different types of safety systems, these are the active and the passive
safety systems. Passive safety systems include a system called Advanced Compatibility
Engineering Body Structure (ACE Body Structure). This feature acts as a shield and absorbs the
energy and force caused from a frontal collision. The active features, on the other hand, assist the
user with lane keeping, emergency breaking, collision warning etc.

Any particular incident of a collision faced by a Honda customer? And how

has Honda’s safety systems controlled that situation?

Incident in which Honda’s highest safety standards saved a customer’s life:

Nicole Hart, a Honda user, shared her experience after facing a collision and described that the
vehicle’s design and structure helped her escape unhurt. Nicole Hart was driving a Honda HR-V
at that time and this specific model is known to meet the highest standards when it comes to the
feature ACE Body Structure. This safety system played an important role in protecting Nicole
Hart from the collision she experienced. There are many other models of Honda that are rated
high in terms of safety because Honda performs crash-test evaluations to avoid any problems
regarding the customer’s safety.

How does Honda control the problem of its defective airbag inflator?
Defective Airbag Inflator:
There were times when the airbags inflator turned out to be defective which led to several deaths
or injuries. Honda used to buy these airbags from Takata Corporation, and the measures that
Honda took to control this issue were remarkable. Since Honda’s top priority is their customer’s
safety, Honda immediately stopped buying airbags from Takata Corporation and asked the
vehicle owners to either get repairs or get their airbag changed. Honda recalled the vehicles that
were suspected to have the defective airbags and asked the customers to get the repairs done as
soon as possible. Moreover, Honda also provides free airbag inflators for certain models.
LEADING
How does Honda lead the market in terms of its safety standards? In order to be more
competitive in the market and giving tough time to its rivalries what measures has Honda
taken?

Leading the market or being the leader of your own respective industry or field is the dream of
every company. Likewise, in the context of safety standards, Honda’s dream of a collision free
environment also helped Honda to be under the top 10 automobile manufacturers. As customers
or buyers are the main part of any market, Honda strives to lead the safety standards by taking
into account the customer’s safety as their first priority. They are already working towards
making their dream come true with advanced suites of collision-avoidance and driver-assistive
technologies called HondaSensing® and AcuraWatch.

In order to be more competitive in the market and giving tough time to its rivalries what
measures has Honda taken?

Leading requires industries to do something different and be more innovative than their
competitors in term of price, quality, safety and be more engaged towards customer satisfaction
and in this context, Honda is striving to be up to the mark in research and development and
technological advancement to provide innovative safety controls in a vehicle.

Examples:

ADVANCED CRASH TEST SYSTEMS:

Leading in safety also depends on how better you know what to expect when the unexpected
happens and in this context, Honda has developed two of the world’s most advanced crash test-
facilities including the largest ever built and first to allow multi-directional crashes.

HONDA’S SELF-DRIVING LEGEND SEDAN:

Honda has become the first carmaker to sell a vehicle, partially self-driving Legend sedan,
equipped with new, certified level 3 automation technology which is a big step towards
eliminating human error-induced accidents. Legend’s “Traffic Jam Pilot” system can control
acceleration, braking and steering under certain conditions.
Once the system is activated, a driver can also watch movies or use the navigation on the screen,
helping to mitigate fatigue and stress when driving in a traffic jam, Honda said in a statement.

It can alert the driver to respond when handing over the control, such as vibration on the driver’s
seatbelt, the carmaker said. And if the driver continues to be unresponsive, the system will assist
with an emergency stop by decelerating and stopping the vehicle while alerting surrounding cars
with hazard lights and the horn, it added.

These types of innovative launches equipped with high quality of customer’s safety has made
Honda to successfully beat its rivalries and to be the best automobile seller and to gain
customer’s confidence in its products.
