As our methodology involved the reading of relevant articles, we extracted diverse information

regarding Honda. We, primarily, looked for articles that state how exactly Honda is different
from the other manufacturers and what are its specializations.
 We learned that Honda has been an award-winning company for quite some time now;
 It recently won the title of an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick+
award;
 We might be aware that other car manufacturers immediately launch new models without
even going through proper testing. This results in various types of accidents; Honda,
however, doesn't immediately launch a new model but instead goes through long testing
and thus ensures the safety of its customers;
 We also learned that Honda has a system known as Honda Sensing that assists the
customers with their driving. This includes emergency brakes when the AI detects a
possibility of a collision, warning from the AI, lane-keeping assistance etc.
Aside from the positive information about Honda we wanted to find out about perilous cases and
situations faced by Honda and how it responded to those incidents. We learned that there have
been several cases where the airbags in Honda cars have exploded during collisions due to some
chemical reactions. Honda used to buy these airbags from Takata Corporation and when these
airbags were exposed to a certain temperature and environment, they would explode and release
shrapnel. As a result, Honda made the decision to stop purchasing airbags from Takata and they
also recalled cars for repair purposes. They started buying airbags from other manufacturers and
have arranged the replacement of the parts free of cost. Honda urged owners who have received
recall notices to get repairs made as soon as possible, especially those with the most dangerous
type of inflator.
We can say that the biggest issue that Honda has faced so far is the problem with the defective
airbags. However, it is also evident that Honda has responded to this problem really wisely.
Therefore, we can conclude that Honda really cares about its customers’ safety and this is what
makes Honda different from the other manufacturers.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
We read some other articles related to Honda and compiled all of the information in a brief
manner. Firstly, we came to know about another AI feature that the Honda cars possess which is
known as HondaLink. HondaLink is Honda's cloud-based integrated car system that connects
owners' smartphones and data packages with Honda's fixed telematics system. The subscription
based HondaLink system allows both the phone and the vehicle to have a data connection at any
time that includes geofencing and speed alerts for parents of teen drivers, stolen vehicle locator,
advanced roadside assistance, automatic collision notification.
The next thing we discovered was a certain campaign launched by Honda. There have been
numerous road accidents involving Honda vehicles where drivers have escaped unhurt. We came
to know about this through that certain campaign known as ‘’Safety For Everyone’’, where
different drivers share their experiences of surviving accidents involving Honda vehicles. The
Honda engineers have explained various techniques through which they increase the safety
standards of their cars, one of the most important of which is the introduction of front seat air-
bags in recent times. The vision of the company has always been to create an environment on the
road where people can drive without having fear of accidents.
Lastly, we found out that Honda announced its new passenger front airbag design and had
planned to release it in 2020. Its new front airbag technology is designed to better protect
occupants in a wide range of frontal collision scenarios and to reduce the traffic injuries as to
better reflect "Safety for Everyone" initiative by Honda. This airbag made a great difference
between conventional airbag systems and Honda's new technology with various of components
but mainly, by testing it on Honda's Ohio safety center which is one of the most sophisticated
facilities for safety research and development.

QUESTIONS:

Our next objective was to come up with a few questions that we planned to ask a Honda Safety
Department’s representative in an interview. There were a few questions that made us curious
about Honda; however, we haven’t conducted the interview yet as the representative had other
commitments. The representative did ask us to mail our questions to her and we are looking
forward to her reply. Moving on, based on what we learned, we came up with the questions
mentioned below:

1. What is Honda's vision regarding the safety standards of automobiles?

2. What is Honda-Link? How does it work? Does it improve Honda vehicle's safety
standards? How has been the progress so far? i.e., what change has Honda-Link brought
in the road collisions?

3. What is the "Safety For Everyone" campaign? What impact does it have on the reputation
of the company?
 4. There have been cases where customers have experienced collisions and walked away
unharmed from them. How does Honda manage this? What kind of technology and
structure is implemented in the vehicles to make it so safe for the customers?

5. What makes Honda so unique and distinguishable in terms of its vision from the other
manufacturers?

6. How did Honda deal with the incident of faulty airbag deployment which lead to injuries
among the vehicle occupants? And what majors did you take for not repeating this
mistake of incorrectly installing inflators?

7. How did Honda cope up with this problem of low ground clearance which made them
scrape their belly every time it passed over a nasty speed bump and does this problem
affect their sales in countries like Pakistan, where there are broken roads and therefore,
required higher-ground clearance?

8. What factors led them to increase their ground clearance from 4th generation onwards?
