1. How is software adding value to automakers ’products?
 Software is adding value to automakers’ products by adding more value and freshness to their
products
without having to invest so heavily in new vehicle production and that is by

a. With the inclusion of software in their cars; automakers are entering uncharted territoryand
they devoting resources to update and test their software to provide the updatedsoftware to
their customers.
b. Automobile software has many of the technologies included in automobile softwarepackages
that track location that have often plagued smart phone manufacturers and appdevelopers.
The existing of software is allowing automakers’to aggregate and analyze the data from
customers’ cars to identify quality problems and, if necessary quickly recalls. Justas with
apps, the possibilities are limited only by the imagination of automakers.
2. Save Cost
With cars and trucks increasingly reliant on complex computer code to operate,
manufacturers can cut costs if they can correct or improve a vehicle’s functions without
having to get the car into a dealership.
3. Efficiency timewise.
Automakers deliver the updated software via Wi-Fi, installing it when the vehicle is
restarted. The company will eventually switch to making updates via satellite

2. How are the automakers benefiting from software-enhanced cars? How are customers

 Easier the customer to navigate the road and car with additional software.
 Solve the traffic problem, parking.
 Communicate each other if anything happen on the road.
 All smart phone users can connect and analyze data on car application.
How its benefiting customers: The system contains code that will upgrade system speed
andimprove the interface based on common criticism. And that will have an open
communication with consumers also there is GPS tracking system is included in the software-
enhanced cars, therefore, customers will get to enjoy additional function. It helps customers to
navigate the road and as well helps the customers to avoid using the roads that having bad traffic.
At the same time, customers will be able to communicate to the other road users (with the
smartphone connected to the car) on the road condition so that his/ her friends will get to know
which road to avoid. Besides, customers can as well listen to the songs they love by connecting
to the music application while they are driving alone to avoid sleepiness.
3. What value chain activities are involved in enhancing cars with software?
 Value chain activities that involve in enhancing cars with software can be illustrated by the
activities of software-enhanced cars by Ford Motor Company. Take for example, in Ford Motor
Company, MyFord Touch interface is an in-dash touch screen available for select vehicles with
controls for navigation, music, phone integration, and temperature. Ford has upgraded this
interface and the Sync software behind the interface, adding tablet and smartphone integration
and better voice response. In 2010, Ford added support for the online music streaming service
Pandora, which is very popular among young potential buyers. This update enables drivers to
connect their tablets and smartphones to the Sync system to access music and other apps using
voice commands. Besides, Chairman Bill Ford Jr. has championed the use of software to
alleviate urban congestion by investing in technology that responds to the problems created by
traffic in the biggest cities. Furthermore, Ford has doubled its investment in vehicle-to-vehicle
communication technologies and BMW is also continuing to develop ways for vehicles to
communicate with one another on the road to avoid collisions. Hence, by upgrading their system,
it can help the company to get more competitive advantages and their products will be demanded
in the market.
4. How much of a competitive advantage is software providing for automakers? Explain your
answer.
For instances, software provides the automakers a competitive advantage of allowing cars to be
managed via the cloud. Ford Motor Company enable users to be able to remotely track their cars
or even diagnose problems with the car such as the problems of low tire pressure or need for an
oil change by using the software that operate online in the cloud. These software developments
provide a new platform for automakers to enhance many car drivers’ life by just a touch of a
finger through a touch panel. Those are the competitive advantages that software provides for the
company which is adding values to the company compared to other competitors in the same
industry. The reason why software providing for automakers with so many competitive
advantages is software upgrading the quality of the cars and support the cars with many
convenient facilities and as well fulfilling customer’s need. 
A. LATAR BELAKANG

Pada saat ini, manusia sangat bergantung dengan teknologi. Kemajuan teknologi dalam berbagai
bidang membantu pengolahan data atau informasi berlangsung sangat cepat dan akurat. Hal ini dapat
dilihat dari banyaknya pekerjaan atau kepentingan masing-masing individu yang sudah menggunakan
aplikasi canggih.
Kemajuan teknologi ini tidak hanya dapat kita jumpai dari alat komunikasi, tetapi sudah mulai
digunakan dalam bidang kesehatan, sosial, dan transportasi. Dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, alat
transportasi merupakan salah satu bidang yang banyak digunakan oleh masyarakat. Transportasi
dapat memudahkan masyarakat untuk berpindah dari satu tempat ke tempat lain dengan cepat.
Saat ini, kemajuan di bidang transportasi dibutuhkan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan penggunanya,
terutama kenyamanan, ketepatan waktu, dan keamanan yang diberikan dari transportasi tersebut.
Dalam perkembangan alat transportasi terutama mobil, sudah banyak perusahaan yang menggunakan
perangkat lunak di dalamnya. Perusahaan mobil menemukan bahwa perangkat lunak merupakan cara
untuk menambah nilai lebih pada produk tanpa harus berinvestasi dalam produksi kendaraan baru.
Masyarakat saat ini sering memberikan keluhan terhadap keamanan dan kenyamanan dalam
berkendara, baik kendaraan pribadi atau umum. Dengan banyaknya keluhan, perusahaan mulai
bersaing dalam memenuhi permintaan pembeli. Perusahaan menggunakan perangkat lunak dalam
produknya, sebagai contoh yaitu perusahaan Ford yang melakukan inovasi dengan membuat aplikasi
MyFord Touch, layar sentuh yang dapat digunakan untuk menghindari kemacetan, memesan tempat
parkir terlebih dahulu, penunjuk arah, musik, telepon, dan pengatur temperatur.

B. KELEBIHAN dan PERMASALAHAN

Dari kumparan tersebut kita tahu bahwa perusahaan Ford telah mengeluarkan teknologi
canggih berupaya aplikasi pengendali layar sentuh di dalam mobil. Teknologi tersebut sangat
memudahkan kita dalam melakukan kegiatan lain dalam berkendara, termasuk untuk mendapatkan
tempat parkir.
Namun dalam melakukan penggunaan aplikasi, kita harus membagi fokus berkendara kita.
Sehingga menyebabkan kelengahan dalam berkendara yang membuat kita celaka. Selain itu, adanya
kemungkinan ketidak akuratannya informasi dalam melakukan pemesanan tempat parkir maupun
navigasi arah. Serta besarnya biaya yang harus kita keluarkan untuk bisa menggunakan produk
tersebut.

C. ALTERNATIF SOLUSI TERBAIK

Menurut kami, untuk menanggulangi permasalahan tersebut perusahaan Ford sebaiknya
melakukan :
1. Meningkatkan sistem kerja yaitu bukan menggunakan sistem layar sentuh
melainkan sistem pengendalian melalui audio kontrol.
2. Meningkatkan sistem GPS.
3. Meminimalisir harga namun tetap menyesuaikan kualitas.
4. Menerapkan sistem keamanan yang lebih.
5. Meningkatkan informasi tentang tempat wisata atau Mall, agar pengendara
mengetahui jumlah lahan parkir.
 D. KESIMPULAN
Kesimpulan dari kelompok kami mengenai data ini, dapat dilihat bahwa dengan perkembangan
zaman, banyak perusahaan yang menginvestasikan dana dan waktu untuk riset dan pengembangan
software , seperti perusahaan Ford. Dibalik kelebihannya, Ford masih memiliki kekurangan dalam
pengembangan aplikasi tersebut seperti ketidakakuratan informasi, dll. Dan solusi yang dapat diberikan
adalah sesuai yang tertera diatas.

E. PELAJARAN YANG DIAMBIL

Jadi dalam pelajaran kali ini yang dapat diambil dari pengetahuan ini bahwa teknologi itu sangat
berkembang didalam dunia industri dan yang di ketahui bahwa Bill Ford sebagai Ketua juga menyatakan
bahwa di perkembangan yang terdapat dari pembuatan mobil-mobil mereka juga dapat ditingkatkan dari
teknologiteknologi yang bisa meningkatkan kemajuan dalam usaha mereka , Contohnya seperti :
Kemajuan teknologi yang membuat perusahaan ford menggunakan GPS/Satelit di produk” yang telah
mereka industrikan , dengan perkembangan teknologi juga dapat membuat waktu lebih singkat dan lebih
gampang untuk digunakan dan dapat di upgrade juga , dalam waktu yang singkat maupun waktu yang
panjang.
