THE DR RONALD JAMES COMMEMORATIVE SCHOLARSHIP WAS OFFERED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 2007. THE
SCHOLARSHIP CELEBRATES THE SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS OF LOCAL PRACTITIONER DR RONALD JAMES
AND ENCOURAGES MEDICINE STUDENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WOLLONGONG TO BECOME AMBASSADORS
FOR REGIONAL HEALTH IN THE ILLAWARRA. THE SCHOLARSHIP TARGETS STUDENTS LOCAL TO THE
ILLAWARRA WHO ARE KEEN TO WORK IN THE LOCAL AREA AT THE CONCLUSION OF THEIR STUDIES.
Criteria:
Applicants for the sponsored Scholarship must meet and address the following criteria:
o Must receive an offer and be enrolled full-time in their first year in a Bachelor of
Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at the University of Wollongong in 2011.
o Applicants must show evidence of having lived in or having significant ties to the
Illawarra region*.
o Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to regional health and a desire to take a
leadership role in promoting regional health within the local community.
o Must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia.
Application Package:
Interested students must provide the following information in support of their application:
o A completed Current Student Application Form from Student Central Building 17 or
download www.uow.edu.au/about/scholarships/currentforms/
o A brief cover letter and resume
o A copy of your academic transcripts from previous studies
o An overview of community involvement and connection to the Illawarra
o A one page outline of how the scholarship will help you to develop as an ambassador for regional
health
o Please submit one (1) additional copy of ALL PAGES of application package (as the sponsor will
be forwarded a copy)
