Getting Started
T he Detroit Diesel MBE application software allows you to diagnose and change
selected parameters on Detroit Diesel MBE 900 and 4000 electronic systems.
This chapter provides instructions on loading the application and navigating through its
menu hierarchy.
NOTE:
i Since this application is supported® by both the Pro-Link GRAPHIQ™ and the Pro-Link®
Plus, this manual uses “Pro-Link ” to refer to both products.
Use the following procedure to load the MBE On Highway application onto the
Pro-Link®.
2 Insert the MBE On Highway Application Card, if you have not already done so.
NOTE:
i Refer to the Pro-Link® User’s Manual for instructions on completing

Making Selections
In order to use the features provided with this application, you will need to select
from various menus presented on the Pro-Link® screen. Making selections typi-
cally involves using the arrow keys navigate to a desired menu or option, then
pressing the key.
The following convention is used throughout this manual in order to provide ab-
breviated instructions on making on-screen selections.
1 From the Pro-Link MPC menu, press the or key to select MBE

NOTE:
i See Appendix B, ”Diagnostic Codes” (page 101) for a complete list of all
supported diagnostic codes.
NOTE:
i Pro-Link® provides the SNAPSHOT feature, which allows you to detect a
®
fault code for a specific parameter. Refer to the Pro-Link User’s Manual
for details.
NOTE:
i The MBE 900/4000 On Highway Application will not identify new faults that
occur during a diagnostic session. That is, if a new fault occurs while the
Pro-Link® is communicating with the vehicle, the vehicle will not be able to
identify and report the new fault. However, once you disconnect, then
reconnect the Pro-Link®, the vehicle’s VCU will then be able to identify and
report the fault. Similarly, if a fault changes from active to inactive during a
session, the change will not be identified by the vehicle’s VCU until the
Pro-Link® is disconnected, then reconnected.
NOTE:
i If a code not supported by the application is received, the screen will dis-
play “Unknown Code” for the PID description.

Managing Passwords
This section provides information on using the PASSWORD feature to manage
passwords that are required in order to access password-protected VCU param-
eter configurations.
Password Levels
Each parameter on the VCU can potentially be protected by more than one level.
The MBE 900/4000 On Highway Application determines the set protection levels
and prompts you to enter passwords accordingly.
NOTE:
i Verify your VCU software level by accessing the Software ID parameter
from the Data List. Refer to page 22 for instructions.
The current levels and the parameters they are created to protect are listed in the
following table:
