Managing Passwords

Managing Passwords
This section provides information on using the PASSWORD feature to manage
passwords that are required in order to access password-protected VCU param-
eter configurations.

This feature extends the following options:

• Enter Passwords (pg. 48)

• Set/Change Passwords (pg. 50)
• Backdoor Pwd (pg. 53)

Password Levels
Each parameter on the VCU can potentially be protected by more than one level.
The MBE 900/4000 On Highway Application determines the set protection levels
and prompts you to enter passwords accordingly.

Different levels of VCU software provide different levels of password protection,

as described in the following table:

VCU Software Protection Level Available

Level
12.xx and Below No password protection options available
13.xx and 14.19 Level 1 protection only / 1 password / All
parameters
14.20 and Higher Multiple levels as described in the table below.

Parameter Identification Descriptions (PID)

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the American Trucking Associ-

Descriptions (PID). In each case, the PID is identified by a number and a PID
description.

The following table shows the supported PIDs (and PID descriptions), along with
the FMI (and FMI description) for each PID.

NOTE:
i If a supported PID is received with a FMI that is not defined by the applica-
tion, the standard FMI description (from the table on page 102) displays in
the readout window. These FMIs are indicated by an asterisk (*) in the fol-

Subsystem Identifier Descriptions (SID)

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the American Trucking Associ-
ation (ATA) have developed a standardized list of System Identification (SID)
descriptions. In each case, the SID is identified by a number and a SAE SID de-
scription. There is also a corresponding Pro-Link® SID description, which is the
way the SID appears in the Pro-Link® readout window.

The following table shows the supported SIDs (and SID descriptions), along with
the FMI (and FMI description) for each SID.

NOTE:
i If a supported SID is received with a FMI that is not defined by the applica-
tion, the standard FMI description (from the table on page 102) displays in
the readout window. These FMIs are indicated by an asterisk (*) in the fol-
