 CHAPTER 1

Project Context

On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) characterized

COVID-19 as a pandemic, pointing to over 3 million cases and 207,973 deaths in

213 countries and territories (Geneva, 2020). For that reason, the outbreak has

not only affected many people’s physical & mental health, but also the economy

of the countries around the globe. As stated in Financing of international

collective action for epidemic and pandemic preparedness. Lancet Global Health

(2017), significant economic impact has already occurred across the globe due to

reduced productivity, loss of life, business closures, trade disruption, and

decimation of the tourism industry.

On the other hand, the pandemic had caused the shifting to digitalization

to accelerate drastically. Although the use of the internet and technology is not

new, it has increased the online activities to lessen the spread of the virus. It is

also used for different purposes like entertainment, job, education and especially

for business transactions. Soto-Acosta (2020) noted that digitalization has

influenced almost all the aspects of the economy from production to

consumption.

The COVID19 crisis became a threat to businesses especially during the

lockdown because almost all the businesses were asked to close temporarily.

Even though the lockdown was lifted, businesses are still slowly adapting to the

new normal trying to compensate their financial losses through the use of

internet.

Since people are advised to avoid physical contact, the internet revolves in

people’s everyday life as it is their only choice to ensure their safety.

With the situation the world is in today, creating a platform like an official

website is beneficial to businesses especially small businesses that are planning

to expand as it promises an efficient way for both the seller and their potential

customers to order food and items without going to the physical store.

Purpose and Description

Since online ordering systems are becoming more popular nowadays due

to the impact of COVID-19, technology and the internet has made its way for

people especially for small and large businesses to keep up to the new normal.

The purpose of this study is to provide a platform for the chosen beneficiary of

the proponents which is Badboy’s Kusina that is a pastry online shop based in

Loma De Gato, Marilao, Bulacan. They sell a variety of foods which are Persian

Style Beef, Ramen, Chicken Biryani, Seafood Platter... They have delivered

orders to their customers who are mostly in nearby areas of Malabon and

Valenzuela City.

The convenience of having an official website is a good investment for a

small business like Badboy’s Kusina who are planning to expand their reach and

manage their orders efficiently and effectively. Customers will be able to view the

foods available for the day or make an advance order and they can choose their
 delivery date depending on whether it is an advanced order or same day

delivery. The project will be able to help lessen the time they spend on taking

orders from their customers. Hence, they will have less communication errors

and their workflow management will be organized and fast.

Objectives of the Study

This system will benefit Badboy’s Kusina, a small business in Malinta,

Valenzuela. Specifically, this project aims to create an official website that is able to

help with the following general and specific objectives:

 General Objectives

o Customers are able to sign in or sign up their account.

o Customers are able to view and search through the food catalog.

o Customers are able to purchase and have it delivered or picked up.

o Customers are provided with payment options which are online and

cash on delivery payment.

o Customers can view the delivery and status of their order.

o Customers can rate and give feedback.

o The seller is able to update the menu.

o The seller can view their sales report.

 Specific Objectives

o Improve their credibility

o Widen their market reach

o Promote their products efficiently

 o Monitor their sale transactions

o Increase their accessibility

Significance of the Study

The main purpose of this project is to create a website that will provide a

user-friendly system. This will also show how important a website is to a

business as well as having readers know how efficient and safe it is to order

online considering the situation they are in today because of the negative impact

caused by the COVID19 outbreak. Furthermore, the project will be able to help

the following:

Badboy’s Kusina The proprietor of this business is the main beneficiary of this

project as it will help them manage their customers, delivery and sales. It is a big

opportunity for them considering that they are a growing business that needs

improvement because this project aims to provide an efficient and effective way

to reach customers and increase their sales.

Customers. This project will be able to provide the customers an efficient and

effective way to order their foods for their special and non-special occasions.

Since the outbreak is far from over, their safety is still at risk. That is why it is

better for them to order online for their convenience and to ensure their safety

against the virus.

Future researchers. This project will be able to help the future

researchers as this project will serve as a guide or reference where they

could learn to develop and improve a website similar to this project.

Scope & Limitation

This project focuses on creating a website for Badboy’s Kusina

which includes order and menu management, feedback, payment and

delivery functions. It also has a login function and account management

for its users. Customers are able to view the catalog as guests but in

order for them to purchase their preferred food, they will have to sign in

to the website. It gives both the seller and buyers an easy, safe and fast

transaction.

However, this project limits the delivery to customers who are in

the area of Valenzuela and Malabon. Since the business does not have

branches yet and their location is only in their house in Malinta,

Valenzuela.
