What is Light?
Light or visible light is electromagnetic radiation within the portion of the
electromagnetic spectrum that is perceived by the human eye
Vocab
Wavelength: The distance between successive crests of a wave, especially points
in a sound wave or electromagnetic wave.

Frequency: The number of waves that pass a fixed point in unit time.

Period: The time it takes for two successive crests (one wavelength) to pass a
specified point.

Trough: The Lowest point in the wave

Crest: The highest point in the wave

Speed of Light
670 616 629 miles per hour

Equation: E = mc2

Different colors have different frequencies
Gamma Rays
Penetrating electromagnetic radiation of a kind arising from the radioactive decay
of atomic nuclei.

Paul Villard Discovered them

X-rays
An electromagnetic wave of high energy and very short wavelength, which is able
to pass through many materials opaque to light.

W.C. Röntgen discovered them

Ultraviolet
Ultraviolet is a form of electromagnetic radiation with wavelength from 10 nm to
400 nm, shorter than that of visible light, but longer than X-rays.

Johann Wilhelm Ritter discovered them

ROY G BIV
red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet
Infrared Light
infrared light, is electromagnetic radiation (EMR) with wavelengths longer than
those of visible light

astronomer Sir William Herschel Discovered it

Microwaves
Waves of electrical and magnetic energy moving together through space

Percy Spencer and Robert N. Hall discord it

Radio Waves
Radio waves are a type of electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths in the
electromagnetic spectrum longer than infrared light.

Heinrich Hertz discovered them
