ACTIVITY 2 IN THEORITICAL FOUNDATIONS IN NURSING

Assignment:
You may submit your work as pdf file.

1. Explain the 3 types of concepts and give your own example of each type
based on your experiences being a daughter/son, student and a citizen.
>We all know that there are three main types of concepts. The first one is the Empirical
concept, which includes directly observable objects, events, and other phenomena.
Empirical thoughts, in my opinion, are based on observable and measured things and
generate knowledge from real-life experience. As a side benefit, as a son, my parents or
even relatives will often scrutinize my body or weight. My body type is somewhat skinny,
and they have always advised me to eat more food in order to gain weight and become
more physically fit, and I believe this is the perfect illustration of empirical concepts.
>The second type of concept is Inferential concepts, which seem to be indirectly
observable, meaning they can be observed but only indirectly, or they refer to the process
of using observation and background knowledge to obtain a logical conclusion. And one of
my personal experiences with this concept is that we have a dog and a store, and we all
know that when the dog barks, it's usually because it's in danger or sick. And if we can't
see it or look at the dog, we'll never know why it barks. So, in order to understand what
happened to the dog, I asked him what happened and why he was barking, and he quickly
rushed to the stranger, who was our customer.
>Last but not least, will be Abstract concepts which are not easily observable or non-
observable, hard to understand, and difficult to accurately measure. So, in my own
experience with this concept, we have no way of knowing when a dog is being violent or
when it bites people. So here's how the story goes. Previously, our relatives from Manila
came to visit us in Leyte and they arrived at our house, and we had no idea why the dog
reacted so fiercely, because the dog knew them before. Thus, we weren't expecting the
dog to attack my cousin and act in such a violent manner, so I guess this is an example of
an abstract idea because the events were not precisely measured.

2. Based on the given examples, formulate your own principle integrating the different
articulated concepts from the different experiences you have encountered.
>Accepting who we are or facing our imperfections, I believe, is the best principle I can
construct. And I believe that, as a son, I can apply this to the empirical concept since my
relatives are so perfectionist that I can question and critique myself. So, rather than
putting myself down and being self-conscious, I've learnt that accepting who we are
relieves some of the burdens in our lives and makes us happy, and we should live our lives
to the fullest. And since it is my body, I know and also observe that I am skinny and there is
no need to critique it.
>The second concept that I may construct as a citizen is Assurance. There are many things
in this society that require assurance, and you can not simply trust anyone unless it is
proven. In my scenario, I can tie this to an inferential concept because, as stated in my
example, I didn't know why the dog barked until it approached the stranger, and by doing
so, the dog assured me that something was lurking nearby. As a result, if my dog didn't
provide me with proof, I could be hesitant to trust it, but on the other hand, my dog
notifies me of a stranger outside our house.
>Be responsible To become a responsible person, one must be able to make conscious
decisions and engage in activities that strive to develop oneself and/or others. A
responsible individual, above all, accepts the consequences of his or her own actions and
decisions. Each step we take toward being responsible and productive increases our self-
esteem and improves our relationships with friends, family, and coworkers tenfold. We
have considerably less stress and commotion in our lives when we are responsible, and we
earn the respect of others.

3. How would you apply this principle in achieving your goals?

Principles: Accepting who we are or facing our imperfections
assurance
Responsibility
These principles are already applied to achieving my goals. These principles help me
understand what I need to deliver. These principles ensure that I can track any performance
that I make against the achievement of my goals and gain my commitment to achieving
them.
These principles help me see my goal more clearly, and help me tell what my goal will look
like when I have already achieved it. In every step I take towards achieving my goal, I will be
able to go faster with these principles applied. I will be able to overcome every obstacle that
I face, since I have accepted all of my imperfections. I would also be more confident in the
things that I do to achieve my goals because I am assured that I can do anything perfectly.
Even if some things don't go my way, I would always be responsible for my actions to
reduce the things that may cause a big problem in achieving my goals.

4. Do you think this principle will help you achieve your dreams? Why?
Principles: Accepting who we are or facing our imperfections
assurance
Responsibility

Why did I think these principles would help me achieve my dreams? Simply, these are the
things that I keep in mind whenever I'm doing anything wholeheartedly. These are the main
things I consider whenever I take every step towards achieving my dreams.

Accepting who we are or facing our imperfections. This is important when you want to
achieve your dream. You are going to face many hardships that may or may not affect you.
Those damages are meant to be accepted in order to be able to execute everything properly.
In terms of action or anything.

Assurance. This is also important because it will give you confidence to do the things that
will help you achieve your dreams. This will teach me to take every step towards my dreams
with confidence and rock them.

Responsibility. For me, this is the most important thing. This will enable me to take charge
of my life. If I am responsible, I would be resilient in finding ways to overcome adversity.
And I can make decisions, taking into account obligations to my family and community.
