ENEM20004 FEA for Engineering Design, T2/2021

Assessment 2: Portfolio
Due date: Week 10, Friday, 24th September 2021
Weighting: 30%
Submission Type: Individual

Task Description:
The goal of this assessment is to test your ability to use ANSYS Workbench®.
You will develop a portfolio of 5 workshops with the undermentioned following
specifications. Marks for each workshop are as indicated.

Workshop 1: Linear 2D Stress Analysis – Gear and Rack – 5 Marks

Carry out a comprehensive analysis of the gear and rack assembly (see zip folder) along
with the additional 8 steps mentioned in slide 16. In addition to these, use the contact tool
and examine the interface attributes (contact stress, pressure, slip, frictional stress).
Change the material properties of the gear and rack, and re-examine the interface
behaviour.

Workshop 2: Meshing – 5 Marks

Select a workshop on meshing applications. In this task, you will showcase your skills
related to various meshing methods and techniques such as refinement, relevance, sizing,
sweeping. You will also discuss on mesh metrics and the techniques you will use to
minimize structural error.

Workshop 3: Buckling Nonlinear Analysis – 5 Marks

Redo and submit the workshop on nonlinear buckling analysis.

Workshop 4: Multistep Modelling – 5 Marks

Perform the workshop on multistep modelling of pipe clamp assembly. Carry out the
extension exercises as indicated on Slide 14.

Workshop 5: Fatigue Analysis – 5 Marks

Submit the workshop on strain-based variable amplitude, proportional load fatigue
analysis

Workshop 6: Contact Stiffness Study – 5 Marks

Perform a contact stiffness study using the given file. After filling the table, plot some
graphs between the various parameters and comment on the various relationships.

Your portfolio template will use the following headings for each of the workshops:
