Assignment 3 (Team Submission)

Team Feasibility Study and

Competency Evaluation
ENEG20001 – Australian Engineering Practice

Due: Thursday, 7 Oct 2021 (3:00 PM AWST)

Weight: 40%
Minimum grade: 50%

Synopsis
This assignment is a team submission. From the sense of self-awareness, all team members should equally
work for a common goal. It is not like that only the team leader will work, and the other members will be
idle. It is essential that you follow the following steps for your successful team project report: initiation,
planning, executing and monitoring. For your team project, you should organise a regular team meeting,
coordination and collaboration using the zoom, email etc. You should keep a record of those meetings and
correspondences and put this record in the appendix of your team project report. To manage your time
effectively, you should have a good project plan. You should be aware of your project milestones and
deliverables. Each group should search for at least 10 relevant peer-reviewed journal articles for your
project works from CQU online library, google scholar and google.

Learning Outcomes
This assignment assesses unit learning outcomes 2,4, 5 and 6.

• Deconstruct a project into Engineers Australia’s graduate competencies

• Generate a scope for a feasibility study of an engineering project
• Work collaboratively based on critical self-review of graduate competencies
• Communicate effectively through technical writing and presentations.

Requirements
• Follow the marking rubric here in, which includes indicators of attainment at various levels of
achievement in each section of the assignment. Focus on clearly demonstrating all criteria to
obtain a good mark.
• Include a cover page with the date, your team members name and id, the unit code and
title, and the title of the project.
• The Academic Learning Centre is available to review this assignment before submitting but
check when and how to send it to them. It is a good idea to send just part of this assignment to
get prompt and feedback in the early stages.
• A strict word limit is not applied, either minimum or maximum, but preparing approximately 25
A-4 pages (Each side 2-cm margin, 1.1 line to line space, Times/Calibri/Arial font, size 11) for Part
A and 2 pages for Part B is recommended.
• Compile and submit the entire assignment into a single PDF using the template provided on
Moodle.
• If needed, request an extension through Moodle with appropriate supporting evidence
before the due day.

Resources on Moodle
You must apply the following resources to complete this assignment.

Resources Application
Technical papers You will need to search at least 10 peer-reviewed journal articles relevant to your
project topic from CQU online library, google scholar, google search. Synthesis of
those articles with a target to covering all elements for your report is important.

Paraphrasing guidelines Follow the ALC’s guidelines for paraphrasing and preparing a Literature Review and
guidelines you have used in Assignment 1.

Example (Part A) –Team Feasibility Study (project) Report

You have already found your team and the team members. Also, you have found your team project title. To
achieve a successful project report, your team will need to create a persuasive narrative based on
background research that justifies why the project should proceed. You will also need to create the aim and
scope(s) that describe the main aspects of the study and how they might be undertaken. Also, your team
will need to list inclusions, exclusions, assumptions and limitations to further define the scope(s) of the
hypothetical investigation.

Your team project report must include the following items but are not limited to:
 Abstract
 Introduction
 Background
 Problem statement
 Research question(s)
 Aim
 Scope(s)
 Methodology
 Discussions
 Risk assessment
 Conclusions
 Recommendations and limitations
 Reference

Example (Part B) –Stage 1 Engineers Australia Competencies

The following table provides a brief example of how to address the first of the 16 competency elements for
Part B of the assignment. All 16 competency elements must be included in this table together with an
explanation of how that element was evident in the project studied in Part A. The example provided is
generic and is unlikely to be specific to this assignment. Do not copy this example. It is provided to
demonstrate the format and style of writing only. Use this part of the assignment to demonstrate broader
awareness of engineering practice beyond the information provided in the paper. Consult lecturers for
assistance if required.

Competency element Evidence from your project in Part A

1.1 Comprehensive, theory‐based understanding of the The design and analysis methods include the application of the
underpinning natural and physical sciences and the engineering Australian Standards (AS1170 in particular). The engineers have
