This is a individual assignment. The work must be submitted individually. Use the cover
page provided by your lecturer. This assignment contributes 100% to your final module
mark.

The following learning outcomes will be assessed:

• Write a basic or applied academic research paper of about 5000 words.


• Demonstrate an understanding of the process of conducting a literature review,
justifying the research topic and choice of methodology, analysing, presenting and
discussion their findings.
• Demonstrate correct use of referencing and citation skills by using APA style only.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

You are required to submit your work within the bounds of the University Infringement of
Assessment Regulations. Plagiarism, paraphrasing and downloading large amounts of
information from external sources, will not be tolerated and will be dealt with severely.
Although you should make full use of any source material, which would normally be an
occasional sentence and/or paragraph (duly referenced) followed by your own critical
analysis/evaluation.

The work must be entirely your own. You will receive no marks for work that is not your
own. The safety of your assessments is your responsibility. You must not permit another
student access to your work. Where referencing is required, unless otherwise stated, the
Harvard referencing system must be used.

Assignment Specification

This assignment has TWO (2) parts: Part 1 and Part 2.

(Part 1 – 90 marks)

This assignment is to expose you in preparing project report.

1. Identify a topic or research area of interest in designing of any software


that can be used to solve users’ problems. You must be able to identify
relevant topic that can be further research and produce solutions to users.
Describe briefly the title and topic of your research
(10 marks)

2. Once you obtained the topic you need to write the following:

Chapter 1
a. Problem background
b. Problem statement
c. Aims and Objectives
d. Project scope
e. Project significance
(20 marks)

3. Next, you need to conduct literature review to get an overview of the topic
and identify similar existing systems available in the market. Once you
obtain relevant information, you need to write the following:

Chapter 2
a. Overview of your topic
b. Similar existing system
c. Identified comparison
d. Proposed solution
e. Development Platform
(20 marks)

4. You are to identify relevant methodology for the proposed system. You also
need to perform analysis for the proposed system. Using any available CASE
tools, design the proposed system. The design will include:

Chapter 3
a. Systems Analysis
i. Functional and non-functional requirements
ii. Use case diagram
iii. Use case description (UCD) (1 UCD only for this
assignment. Very general description to cover all
major UCs)

b. System Design
i. Sequence diagram (1 sequence diagram ONLY for this
assignment) to show entire system behavior. In final
year project, all sequence diagrams must be presented)

ii. Class diagram

d. Proposed story board

Writing a Journal Article

From the research and writings obtained above, write a scholarly research
paper on the topic you. You must have at least 10 references from peer-
reviewed journals.

The research paper must follow APA style for citations and references. Other
styles are not accepted, and deduction will be made for non-use or incorrect
use of APA.

Grading will be based on quality and depth of your research and should
follow the outline of a research paper. Writing style must be of a high
acceptable scholarly level, with no grammatical and spelling errors.
