Batle House, a stunning beauty, has a unique facade covered with mosaics,
pottery and wrought iron balconies. Its ceramic roof is unique and deserves
special attention. Like the Casa Vicens, Casa is the work of master Batle
Gaudí and even the walls are wavy, as if produced in skin. As used in infinite
tile and delicate shades of blue is another curiosity that does not escape the
visitor.
Batle House along with the Casa Mila (also called "La Pedrera") has an
undulating facade makes an icon of modernism. It was declared a World
Heritage Site by UNESCO on November 2, 1984, together with the Palau
Güell, Park Güell and Crypt of the Colonia Güell. La Pedrera (the second
most visited museum in the city) is the latest work "civil" by Gaudi before
devoted entirely to the works of the Sagrada Familia.
Gothic Quarter
Barcelona is the heart of the city where he was born and where the main
public buildings: the Palau de la Generalitat, City Hall, the Palau Reial.
Several of the narrow streets of the Gothic quarter lead to the Plaza Sant
Jaume, which dates back to the days of Roman rule in Spain. Throughout the
neighborhood can still see remnants of the main defensive wall of the
Roman period, as the door of the "Plaça Nova" (which houses the City Hall
and the Palace of the Generalitat).
Sant Jaume Square, the center of the Gothic Quarter, in the past was the
Roman Forum and it crossed the old ways "Decumanus (Call today and
Libreteria street) and" Cardus "(today the streets and Bisbe Ciutat).
On the floor of the Rue Paradis can still appreciate a mill stone that marks
the highest point of the hill Taber.
The Plaza del Rei is one of the landmarks of the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona
and here we find important monuments like the Royal Palace, the Church of
Santa Agata and the Palace of the Archives of the Crown of Aragon.
La Rambla
Undoubtedly is the most visited Barcelona and it is the most emblematic
streets and one of the most popular.
This area is where we meet artists, mimes, pet shops and florists in
Barcelona.
Near the Plaza de Catalunya and the port are several palaces (such as Güell
and the Viceroy).
It is highly recommended to sit on any of the terraces of the Rambla for a
drink and enjoy the extravagance of the people and the sun.
The Montjuïc
From different parts of the city and especially from the tall buildings is
possible to observe the mountain of Montjuïc. Located between the city and
the sea, in what would be the old town. The Montjuïc Tibidabo is in
conjunction with one of the two mountains that assign a special character to
Barcelona. Hosts a number of sports facilities and their feet are the Olympic
site which provided a backdrop for the Games of 1992.
As a novelty we mentioned that the May 16 re-opened the cable car that
continues to provide panoramic city views. A show not to be missed are the
Montjuïc Fountains with two slots per year of operation (May to September
and from October to April). During the months of January and February the
source stands for the annual review.
Here also lies the Poble Espanyol (Spanish Village) which is an open-air
museum created in 1929 which brings together the main characteristics of
the people of Spain. Other museums located here are the Barcelona Teatre
Musical, the Mercat de les Flors, the Teatre Grec, the National Museum of
Catalan Art, and the new Botanical Garden of Barcelona.
