to build large factories and hotels near your community.

Suggested answers

Advantages:
• Local residents will be able to find more job opportunity in this factory and have
a better social status.
• Local retailers will pay less for transportation of goods due to having better
access to this factory. Because this factory needs the better quality of roads,
transportation will be improved for local citizens.
• Hiring more workers, the population of the region will increase far significantly,
which will cause the local government to pay attention more to basic
infrastructures, including transportation, education or healthcare.
• Local people’s lifestyles will be improved remarkably. Having better business
and a higher salary, the level of economic condition will be improved.
• They will have less stressful lifestyle due to being able to have more record of
travelling annually. The tourism industry will gradually develop because its
products may attract more tourists.
• To be employed in this corporation, more young have to become more educated,
so the level of educated juveniles will increase notably.

Disadvantages:
• Air and water pollution caused by this factory will ruin the local environment and
wildlife fundamentally.
• People may suffer from more noise pollution, produced by gadgets, constructions
or vehicles transporting products.
• Local residents will pay for renting or purchasing of properties due to increasing
the density of population.
• The level of crime might increase because of raising the local population and
visiting more foreigners.
• Passing more vehicles carrying goods for the factory, traffic congestion will rise
notably.
• The pollution would cause many diseases among the community people.
• The land required for the establishment of the factory might be acquired by
deforestation or seizing fertile farmland which would have serious long-run
consequences in our community.

I disagree with the statement that it’s possible to form
a close friendship with somebody unless you have a lot in common.
I think it’s perfectly possible to form a close friendship
with somebody who is very different from you. In fact, some people say that
‘opposites attract’!

1. Would you be able to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of genetic
engineering?
- Genetic engineering is the practice of manipulating the genes of an organism.
- It is used to produce crops that are more resistant to insects and diseases.
- Some genetically modified crops grow more quickly.
- Some drugs and vaccines are produced by genetic engineering.
- It may become possible to change a person's genetic characteristics.
- Scientists may use genetic engineering to cure diseases.
- Inherited illnesses would no longer exist.
- Genes could be changed before a baby is born.
- It could also be possible to clone human organs.
- We could have replacement body parts.
- Humans could live longer, healthier lives.
A. Family similarities
1.In what ways can people in a family be similar to each other?
>>>People in a family can be similar to each other in appearances or characters.
For example,in my family, my younger sister takes after my Mom while I take
after my Dad in appearance. Besides, in characters, my sister and I are similar to
my mother. Sometimes, I am timorous.
2.Do you think that daughters are always more similar to mothers than to
male relatives?
>>>I dissent to you that daughters are always more similar to mothers than to male
relatives. I think that there are still cases that daughters are more similar to fathers
than to mothers like my aunt’s family. In her family, in spite of being female, the
daughter is similar to her father while the son is similar to his mother. However,
we can’t deny having many cases that sons are still more similar to their fathers
than to their mothers. For example, my boyfriend is really a chip off the old block.
3. In terms of personality, are people more influenced by their family or by
their friends? In what ways?
>>>I think that people are more influenced by their family when they were young.
For the reason, when they were young, their parents frequently got in touch with
them in order to take care of or educate them. Therefore, they were affected by
their parents’ personalities. However, when they are grown up and go to school,
they are usually influenced by their friends in many aspects, especially characters.
If you are in a group, you often have behaviors like them because you regularly get
in touch with them.
B. Genetic research
1. Where can people in your country get information about genetic research?
>>>People in my country usually get information about genetic research in
hospitals or professional universities, such as, Medicine University, or genetic
research institutes and so on. However, in my country, getting information about
genetic research is not common as in Western countries. When we have related
incidents, we think of taking information about it.
2. How do people in your country feel about genetic research?
>>>Although genetic research is an advanced scientific achievement that is
important to human beings, in my country it is really not developed. It is very
likely that people are really not interested in surveying about genetic research in
my country. However, I think that genetic research is more and more popular and
developed, year in, year out.
3. Should this research be funded by governments or private companies?
Why?
>>>In my point of view, genetic research should be funded by government
because of its importance to my country’s development. I think that it is necessary
that government should concern about it considerably.
