ABSTRACT
Background: Stroke is a disorder in which patients experience limitations in performing daily activities,
resulting in a negative body image. To improve a negative body image can be done either by relaxation
guided imagery.
Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effect of guided imagery relaxation to body image in patients
with stroke.
Methods: The design of this study used a quasi-experimental with one group pre-test-post-test design.
Sampling technique used in the study using purposive sampling with a sample of 23 respondents. The
statistical test was a paired t-test with α 0,05 (5%).
Results: The results of this study found that body image before the stroke patients given a guided
relaxation imagery most of the negative category was 20 peoples (87%). Body image after guided
relaxation imagery mostly with negative categories, namely 12 (52.2%), and there was the effect of
guided imagery relaxation to body image in patients significantly (p = 0.000). The conclusion of this
study is there is an effect of relaxation guided imagery on body image in stroke patients. Suggestions
researchers, guided relaxation imagery can be used as non-pharmacological to improve the body image
of nurses in stroke patients independently.
