POST PHILOSOPHY

 How has your "Personal Philosophy" changed from the "Pre-Personal

Philosophy" statement you wrote at the beginning of this course. Be specific.

My statement has changed a lot since the beginning of this course in so many ways.
To be exact I wasn’t fully aware of what special education meant. Although, at the
beginning of the course I said that I do have a niece with Down syndrome and knew a
bit of thing. However, as you read the book and observe a class and it's very different
than me having a niece with Down syndrome and watching her grow to being a
parent and helping your child grow to being a teacher and helping that child grow. In
this course, I learned the difference between handicaps and disability, kids going into
adulthood and learning how to be independent, technology that helps kids disability
grow, a timeline of the history of special education in the united states, learning the
environment of kids with disability, learning how the family feels raising kids with
disability, etc. In this course, I've learned so many things that I am still fascinated
with, and very excited that I got to learn many new things.

 What, specifically, is the role of the special education teacher in the

classroom?

A specific role of a special education teacher in a classroom is providing instruction and support
for students with disabilities. A special education teacher needs to have patience. Although, it’s
the same thing as a general teacher you still need to have patience with your students you need to
have more patience if you’re teaching a class with special needs. They are educating children
who face physical, mental, emotional, and learning disabilities. However, being a special
education teacher
 How do you believe students with special needs learn best?

In my opinion, I believe kids with special needs learn the best in several
ways. In other words, every kid has their unique learning style but, I believe
the best learning style would be by observing others. This could be from
reading, seeing, and listening. If a child with special needs is learning and
observing someone I believe it should be a positive role model. Not just any
role model but, a role model with a disability. A role model with a disability
can give them some sort of comfort of seeing how a person with a disability is
successful in life and how even if they have a disability it shouldn’t stop them
from living their life.

 In general, what are you goals for your students with special education
needs?

My goals for my students with special education needs its too help them grow and
understand. I want my kids to know that to never give up.

 What qualities do you believe an effective special education teacher should

have?

For starters, I believe in effect the special-education teacher should have creativity, calming, very
organized, even-tempered, adaptability, etc. I think it's very important for a teacher to have all
these qualities especially a special education teacher. You need to have patience and love for you
to teach special education.

 Do you believe that all students can learn?

Yes, we must believe all students can learn regardless of any disability. However, there
may be struggles or difficult times but, that shouldn’t stop a kid from learning. I believe
that we should never believe that students are unable to learn. When we have that
mentality we’re thinking negatively and not believing in the kids who are the future.

 What do teachers owe their students with special education needs?

I believe they owe them respect, understanding, love , and patience.
