I “LICE” TO YOU
 
A community health nurse is contacted about a possible head lice outbreak in an
elementary school in her district. The school has sent 50 students home in the past
week with suspected head lice. The principal is upset that parents are sending their
children to school with unclean hair, which he believes is the cause of the head lice
infestation. The children who have been sent home are all in the third grade. Answer the
following questions:
 
What should the nurse do first? Who should the nurse involve in the
epidemiological investigation? - Conduct an assessment of the occurrence outbreak
and keep track of the 50 students suspected of head lice. Furthermore, continue to
identify that have been contacted with head lice and document the numbers identified
infected individuals.
 
oB. What kinds of data should the nurse obtain during the first part of the
investigation?
The data should include: 
 Time and place of the occurrence of an outbreak 
 names of the infected and their whereabouts
 People who contact with the infected individual
 
What specific program is possible for you to initiate as a community health
nurse?

Objective:  
1. Identify the main cause of the occurrence of lice
2. Prevent the occurrence of lice-outbreak
3. Treatment and Management of infected persons
Involved Individuals: Parents, Teachers, Children
Relate your ways /manner of doing the program: 
As a nurse, I should have a better planning of this program to make an effective way to
prevent and exterminate the occurrence of a lice outbreak. Additionally, it should be
monitoring the infected persons to evaluate the management that has been applied.
Also, to develop the program and improve the objective and effective ways of

MY HEART WENT “OOPS”
 
The emergency room physician has referred a 60-year old man to a clinic for follow-up
care of his hypertension. While taking his health history, the clinic nurse learns that the
client has recently been released from prison after a twenty-year sentence. He has just
started working as a dishwasher in a local restaurant.
 
He is living in a low-rent housing facility and does not have a car, a telephone, or health
insurance. During his years of incarceration, the client lost all contact with family
members and friends. Since he has only recently moved to this city, he has no local
contacts. In reviewing clinic admission forms, the nurse assesses that the client's
reading skills are very low level.
 
Questions for this hypertensive client scenario: 
1. What risk factors should the nurse consider when providing
comprehensive care for this client? 
 
The nurse should consider the following: 
- the nurse considers the capability of the client to internalize the information. Also,
consider the age factor which other organs are decline especially the eyes and ears
when giving informed consent from doing some procedures. Additionally, the mental
aspects of the older patient which his background indicates loneliness of his life that
might be a factor for his mental health.
What other health care providers may collaborate in this case? 
- Since the patient had been 20-years of prison experience and a socially isolated
person with hypertension. I think the patient must give prioritize his mental and
emotional aspects that will refer to a psychologist. Considering that he had
hypertension, the stressor from being isolated from your close contact will give
emotional distress that causes hypertension. Therefore, it will referable to a cardiologist
which can give prior management of his illness of having hypertension. According to
Pubmed, Stress can cause hypertension through repeated blood pressure elevations as
well as by stimulation of the nervous system to produce large amounts of
vasoconstricting hormones that increase blood pressure. Factors affecting blood
pressure through stress include white coat hypertension, job strain, race, social
environment, and emotional distress. S Kulkarni , I O'Farrell, M Erasi, M S Kochar,
et.al., (1998).
 What community agencies may be an appropriate referral for this client?
- Psychologists/ Therapists, Cardiologist, Social service

What specific program is possible for you to initiate as a community health

nurse? s
Name of the program: Inmate foundation program
Objective: 
- To help the people who have been released from the prison to regain their lives by
providing a stable job and while earning money, then the program will provide a boot
camp which a shareable house or home of the inmate. So that, they have no problem
finding a house and keeping them socialize with another person. Additionally, finding
their families which they need emotional and mental support.
Involved Individuals: Social Services like DSWD, People who just got out of prison,
their families
Relate your ways /manner of doing the program:
- Being a nurse, I have been doing a warm-heartedness of this program to help the
people with no social, mental, and emotional support which makes them illness on their
health. To make this program successful, it must be done a better plan to work all of this
out and give them the highest health wellnesses level on their health.
