1.0 Scope
This procedure will be used as the general requirements for the pipe support
installation. This procedure generally excludes piping systems furnished as a
regular part of manufacturer's standardized equipment or package facility.
Where drawing requirements are in contradiction to this procedure, drawing
requirements will govern.

3.0 General
3.1 Units
The metric unit (meter, celsius and kilogram etc.) is used for this procedure.
3.2 Materials
3.2.1 Unless otherwise specified in the specification or contract, the materials for
supports is generally SB41(KS) or A36(ASTM) for general structure, and
SPP(KS) or A53-B(ASTM) for ordinary piping.
3.2.2 The materials for supports which are directly welded to piping will be equal to
those for the piping.
3.2.3 The general support materials is used in accordance with each of drawing
notes.
3.2.4 All bolts and nuts are conforming to specified requirement in the specification
or contract.
3.4.2 The minimum leg size of continuous fillet welds will be 6mm, unless otherwise
specified on the drawings.
5) Resting Support
A simple support bearing the pipe weight only,
6) Directional Stop
A support restricting the movement of a certain direction,
7) 3-Way Restraint
A support restricting the movement of three directions, but permitting the
rotation,
8) Pick-Ups
A support resting small diameter pipe using large diameter pipe instead of
steel structure.
4.1 General
4.1.1 All piping systems will be adequately supported to prevent overloads imposed
on equipment nozzle and piping, or expansion stress or vibration and
deflection of piping from the weights and thermal stress of piping by anchors,
guides, spring hangers, T-posts etc.
4.1.2 The details of concrete structures and foundations will be as indicated on the
civil drawings.
3) stress engineer.
Plate material will be the same pipe size, material and wall thickness
4.1.8 When supports such as shoes and trunnions are directly welded to pipes for
high temperature or high pressure services, welding end preparation will be
exactly carried out as illustrated below :
4.1.9 When actual piping differs from that on the detailed support drawing the
dimensions of support will be adjusted at field without changing the supporting
function.
4.1.10 Shoe will be attached to piping in such a way that both centers of shoe and its
support beam coincide, unless otherwise specified on Piping Plan Drawings
and Piping Support Detail Drawings.
4.1.11 No clearance will be allowed between the bottom of pipes or shoes and the top
of support beams. Where clearance exists, it will be adjusted with shim plates.
4.1.12 Hanger will be adjusted to give the tension consistent with the pipe weight
without causing excessive tension.
4.1.13 Where resting supports are designed to slide along foundation or pavement,
the mortar level will not project the sliding surface. Sliding surface will be
adjusted to be horizontal and smooth.
Foundation Pavement
4.1.14 Where temporary supports for construction or testing purpose are taken away,
remaining foreign matters (i.e. tack welds, slags etc.) will be removed and
welded surface will be made smooth immediately after removal of such
temporary supports.
4.1.15 Temporary tack welds for construction, that is between sliding plates of pipe
support, shall be removed and cleaned before starting precommissioning work.
4.2.1 Support marks on piping of 1½" and under will be omitted in Plan or ISO
drawings. They will be installed at adequate place in field.
4.2.2 Direct welding of supports to the pipe of 1½" and under will be avoided as
much as possible. When such welding is inevitable, supports will be of the
same material with the pipe.
4.2.3 Support spacing will be 3m maximum regardless of the kind of fluid in the pipe,
and guides will be installed as follows :
1) Guides of the rack piping will be located at 6m and over apart from the
conner, regardless of the temperature of the fluid in the pipe.
② Guide
5) Generally the shoes will not be used for hot-insulated pipes of 2" under.
② Control valve
Either of inlet line or outlet line of the control valve will be fixed by U-
bolts or U-bands.
7) Supports for hose station will be as follows :
4.3.1 General
1) Please perform installation works of variable spring hangers by confirming
fitting location and method at each supporting point in accordance with
hanger installation drawings.
2) Hold pipe lines with temporary supports or chain blocks during the
installation so that an excess load may not be applied to the hangers,
although they are designed to bear twice as much as the maximum
M12 ± 55
M16, M20 ± 75
③ Turn load column until load flange and pipe shoe fit closely, so that the
preset pieces can be removed easily.
④ Load flange and pipe shoe should not be welded, unless otherwise
specified.
4.3.3 Installation procedures of constant spring hangers
1) Weld lug plates to the beam of plant building or hanger bracket, with lug
plates position and weld leg length as specified in the drawing. Standard
weld leg length are shown in the following table.
Plate thickness Weld leg length Plate thickness Weld leg length

4.4.1 General
Vibration proof devices will be installed at the same time to be installed spring
hangers, and adjusted after the operating condition has become normal.
Vibration proof devices will be installed carefully, so that they will prevent
vibration without harmful effect for thermal expansion.
