Statement of Purpose

My name is Mohammed Althobaiti. I was born on _____ and since my birth I am a resident of Saudi
Arabia. I intend to study MSc Social and Public Policy from Cardiff University. _____ will be my financial
sponsor throughout my stay in UK. I have a family consisting of ___ members. My father name is ___
and he is ____ by profession. We have access to sufficient funds.

I have passed my Associate degree in Maintenance Mechanical Engineering Technology from Jubail
Industrial College in (year__) and graduated with a score of 3.02 out of 4.00 from there. After
completing my associate degree, I decided to go extra mile and discover some opportunities around the
globe and found that UK is the best for my further studies. I took admission in Bachelor of Engineering in
Mechanics at Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford City in (year__). There, I graduated with a good score
of 3.4 out of 4.0. I am an active and generous student among others during my undergraduate studies,
very often involved in many curricular and Co-curricular activities. In fact, I remain very competent and I
have passed all entrance tests conducted by the academic institution of my education with high
achievements. During class work with the group of five members in which I was made the Group Leader
and I handled all the problems/issues with group discussion. In this period, I learned and able to solve
the complicated problems related to my engineering field (measuring the performance
of mechanical components, devices and engines, maintaining and modifying equipment to ensure that it
is safe, reliable and efficient. using computer-aided design/modelling software etc.). While studying in
this period I found strong motivation in myself towards graduate study and research in the area of
Engineering. In 2018, I worked under DHL supervision as a contractor employee and my duties were
translating, HS coding and data entry. At present I am working for Drama company as a Sales specialist.
My duties are to represent the company, with a comprehensive understanding of our offerings, Meet
weekly, monthly and annual sales and activity quotas, Sales analysis, Inventory management within the
branches and Team managements. My major focus was to ee-engineered product to meet client value
add/value engineering requirements. My Personality: By fact, I am socially active person with friendly
nature, a good communicator indeed who is blessed with many friends. I keep a keen view to the reality
of life thus approach people with positive mind and attitude and always prove to be helpful with honest
efforts and true dedication. Besides that, I always feel very joyous and fortunate to meet and greet
people belonging to different backgrounds and cultures. As such meetings are always important because
they prove to be beneficial in future also it makes things easy to cope whether one works or studies in
his own country or outside the country.

Researching for the best universities is indeed crucial and I decided to choose England because the UK
has world recognized and thoroughly reputable universities. During my research online, I decided to go
with the flow and ended up choosing the Cardiff University, Cardiff. There are multiple feeding factors
behind. Cardiff University is the third oldest university in Wales and contains three colleges: Arts,
Humanities and Social Sciences; Biomedical and Life Sciences; and Physical Sciences and Engineering.
Cardiff University was ranked 5th amongst UK universities in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework
(REF) based on quality, and is a member of the Russell Group, a group of 24 leading UK research
intensive universities and 9th largest university in the term of students. Another factor of catching my
interest is its Civic Mission, which have been delivering support to the health, wealth and wellbeing of
the people of Wales for well over a hundred years. The Cardiff University campus is located about 2km
from the central train and bus station, with Cardiff airport just 17km away and London a little over 2
hours by train. Cardiff is among the fastest growing capitals in Europe, and extremely popular with
students who are drawn to its inexpensive cost of living, nightlife, sporting facilities and culture. A place
in one of the university’s 5,100 student rooms is guaranteed to all first-year international
undergraduates students entering through the normal admissions cycle. The vast majority of student
residences are single end-suite study bedrooms in self-catered flats and students.

For those interested in sport, the main accommodation site at Talbot features a state-of-the-art sports
training village and fitness complex which played host to competitors at the London 2012 Olympics

The Subject I have decided to study is Social and Public Policy. The MSc Social and Public Policy focuses
on understanding the causes of, and potential solutions to, a range of important social issues. These
include challenges such as poverty, increasing economic and social inequalities, and international
development agreements.

This is an ideal course if you want to develop your capacity to analyses social and public policies
nationally and internationally. It will enable you to deepen your understanding of the major aspects of
social and public policy, including: competing conceptions of citizenship and how these inform social
policy and the use of theories and research evidence to analyses, evaluate and explain social and public
policy change.

The MSc in Social and Public Policy is organized around a sequence of up to three 20-credit specialist
modules, two 30-credit modules in social science theory and research methods, and one 60-credit
supervised dissertation on a social or public policy topic of my choice.

Finally, you will be asked to produce a 60-credit, 20,000-word dissertation on a social or public policy
topic of your choice. This dissertation involves a small-scale independent piece of research, and enables
you to develop your interests in a substantive area related to the programmed, and to put into practice
the knowledge and skills developed through participation in the taught modules. You will be allocated a
personal dissertation supervisor to assist in planning, conducting and writing up the research project.

Core modules for year one

 Critical Perspectives in Social Science

 Principles and Practice of Research Design and Methods
 Citizenship and Social Policy
 International and Comparative Social and Public Policy
 Evaluation: Developing and Evaluating Interventions in Complex Social Systems
 Dissertation

I am sure that I will learn and gain the in-depth knowledge of my field so that when I return to my home
country, I will benefit from this course. The course will provide me with the much-needed basic
information I need to progress into a Master’s degree and allow me to fulfil my dream of working for
social change. The course also allows me to get an international perspective and an insight into the
management practices, which I will apply practically to my field and will come back to my native country
with much knowledge and aim to serve my society.

Best Regards,

Mohammed Althobaiti
