INTRODUCTION

Leader:
Brothers and Sisters we our gathered here today to glorify God for the wonderful
things He bestowed on us, on our families, on our community and on our institution.
We thank the Lord for giving to us Mary to be our mother and now seated beside his
throne as Queen of heaven and earth. As we begin our preparation for her feast day,
let us contemplate the events of her life, a life exemplary disciples of the Lord until
the foot of the cross and how we ,her devoted children, can imitate her in following
Christ in our daily lives.

ACT OF CONTRITION

All:
Oh Lord Jesus, true God and true man, our God and Redeemer, whom we believe, trust
and love above all things. We are very sorry for all the sins we have committed because
you are all good and deserving of all our love. We resolve with all our heart not to sin
again. Pardon us, our Lord and Savior, and strengthen our love for you. Grant us the
grace to make a worthy pilgrim for your greater glory and the exaltation of Mary ever
Virgin, our mother and queen, who is the patroness of this institution. And may her
loving intercession keep us away from sin so that we may be worthy to receive the
favor we wish to obtain during this triduum. Amen.

PRAYER TO THE BLESSED MOTHER

Based on the Prayer of Pope John Paul II to the Blessed Mother.
All:
Hail, O Mother, Queen of the world! You are the Mother of the Divine Love, you are the
mother of Jesus, fount of every grace, the perfume of every virtue, the mirror of every
purity. You are joy in our weeping, victory in battle, and hope in death. What a sweet
taste your name has in our mouth, what gentle harmony it is our ears, what elation it
gives to our heart. You are the happiness of those who suffer, the crown of martyrs, the
beauty of virgins. Lead us we beseech, after this our exile to the possession of your Son
Jesus. Amen.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

Leader:
Dear Brothers and Sisters with open hearts and attentive minds, let us listen to the
Word of the Lord.

For the second day of the Triduum:

I. NATIVITY

Reader:
A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Saint Luke 2:1-14, 16-20

In those days a decree went out from Emperor Augustus that all the world should
be registered. This was the first registration and was taken while Quirinius was
governor of Syria. All went to their own towns to be registered. Joseph also went
from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem,
because he was descended from the house and family of David. He went to be
registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child.
While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child. And she gave birth
to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger,
because there was no place for them in the inn.

In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their
flock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the
Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do
not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to
you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is the Messiah,* the Lord.
This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying
in a manger.’ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly
host, praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth
peace among those whom he favours!’

So they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the child lying in the
manger. When they saw this, they made known what had been told them about this
child; and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them. But Mary
treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned,
glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
All:
As it was in the beginning is now and will be forever. Amen.

REFLECTION
Leader:
Virtue to practice: POOR IN SPIRIT

Are we easily distracted by worldly possessions and other temptations? Do we

humbly bring Christ into this world through our prayers, thoughts, words, and
actions?

We pray that when we bring Christ into this world, we do so humbly without
pride or self-centeredness. We pray that the things of this world do not distract
our focus away from what is truly important—God’s presence in our life and His
will for us.

A brief Silence to meditate the Word of God.
