Viscofluid
Zenith Chemicals develops Viscofluid that can be applied during the molding process of plastics,
sheet molding compound (SMC) and composite components for automotive, heavy truck and
marine applications. They also can improve the environmental impact associated with
multiple priming, painting and finishing steps.
Product Application
Polymeric viscosifier for oil and synthetic based drilling muds offers an engineered rheological
profile to provide low equivalent circulating densities (ECDs) at low concentrations with greater
suspension properties and excellent hole cleaning.
Suitable for use in drilling fluids at bottom-hole temperatures up to 260 °C (500 °F)
Proven technology in land and offshore HTHP drilling
- Additive for optimum hole cleaning in highly deviated wells greater than 45°
Advantages
A drill-in fluid should resemble a completion fluid. It may be brine containing only
selected solids of appropriate particle size ranges (salt crystals or calcium carbonate) and
Polymers. Only additives essential for filtration control and cuttings carrying are present
in a drill-in fluid.
Engineered rheological profile with low concentrations to provide low ECDs with greater
suspension properties and excellent hole cleaning
Real-time response with no wait time for rheology modifiers to yield (i.e., no need for
multiple mud circulations)
Solids free viscosifier allowing higher rates of penetration without the need of weighting
Agents Increases low-shear-rate viscosities (LSRV) and gel strengths for improved hole cleaning
in deviated wells

PROCESSING INFO
Viscofluid viscosifiersactivate when mixing with brine in the mud. Adequate mixing should be
maintained in pits or frac tanks to sustain rheological profile of mud.
Recommended loading flow through the hopper is a 55 gal drum per 10–15 minutes or a 5 gal
bucket per minute, while maintaining a small, constant stream. When making fresh mud,
Viscofluid viscosifiers should be added before the brine. CaCl2 brine between 10% and
saturation are adequate; other brine types may be used after lab or pilot testing.
Avoid overtreatment due to viscosity rise from increased low gravity solids.
Storage:
The recommended storage temperature is 40–120 °F (4–49 °C). For bulk storage, use
Stainless steel or plastic tanks. Minimum shelf life is 12 months when stored as recommended.
