Question One [25 Marks]


a) Project Work Breakdown is an important aspect in Project Planning. You are the Project
Manager, the CEO has asked you to break down a 100 housing unit Project using a structure
into manageable constituents. (10 Marks)
b) Explain the two techniques used for Monitoring and Controlling of a Project. Further
explain the Project Control cycle. (10 Marks)
c) Calculate the critical ratios for the following activities and indicate which are probably on
target and need to be investigated. (5 Marks)

Question Two [25 Marks]

a) Briefly define the meaning of Project Network Analysis and further explain the three
commonly used techniques. (7 Marks)

b) With the use of illustrations, explain the following; (2 Marks@)

iv. Sequencing
c) A construction project consists of 22 activities, A to V as described here;
• A, B and C are initial activities that can be performed simultaneously.
• F can start immediately after A is completed.
• D can start only after both B and C have been finished
• Once both A and B are completed, activity E can be started.
• G cannot begin until E has been finished.
• Activities H and K can start immediately after F is completed.
• Activities I and J begin after D, G, and H have all been completed.
• Activities L and M immediately follow I
• Activities N, O and P succeed K.
• Q follows L
• R follows M, J and N
• S follows R
• U begins after both Q and S have been completed.
• T follows O and V follows O and P
Draw up an activities and predecessor list for the project and construct the network. (10 Marks)

Question Three [25 Marks]


a) A Work Schedule is an action timetable. As a Project Manager, explain the importance of
a Work Schedule on a construction site. ( 5 Marks)

b) Given the following activities, draw a Ghant chart including Hammocks and Milestones,
assuming works are to begin on 14th April, 2018. Further, draw a Revised Ghant Chart
indicating the progress of the Project as of today 5th May, 2018. ( 8 Marks)
