II – Overview:
Cavity Mutiny was a brief uprising of 200 Filipino troops and workers at
the Cavite Arsenal. The harsh reaction of the Spanish authorities against
the Filipinos led to the promotion of Philippine nationalism. This event
subsequently led to the execution of the three priests.

Many scholars believe that the Cavite mutiny of 1872 was the beginning
of Filipino nationalism that leads to the Philippine Revolution of 1896.
This event was meaningful to the Filipinos because this was the execution
of the three priests: Mariano Gomez, Jose Apolinario Burgos, and Jacinto
Zamora in short GOMBURZA on February 17, 1872 in Bagumbayan in
Manila. The execution left a profound effect among Filipinos which
united them.
