What do our gender symbols really mean?

- A gender symbol is a pictogram or glyph used to represent biological
sex and gender in biology or medicine, in genealogy, or in the
sociological fields of gender politics, LGBT subculture and identity
politics.

Male Female Transgender The Virgin

1. MALE - The symbol is identical to the planetary symbol of Mars. It was

first used to denote sex by Carl Linnaeus in 1751. The symbol is
sometimes seen as a stylized representation of the shield and spear of
the Roman god.
2. FEMALE - The word female comes from the Latin femella, the diminutive
form of femina, meaning "woman"; it is not etymologically related to the
word male, but in the late 14th century the spelling was altered in
English to parallel the spelling of male. Female can refer to either sex or
gender or even the shape of connectors
3. TRANSGENDER - The new white symbol with a black border is an
extension of the Trans symbol with the male and female symbols, a
combined symbol representing those with a gender identity combining
male and female and a plain pole (with neither arrow nor bar)
representing those with a gender identity that is neither male nor female,

4. THE VIRGIN -Virgo, the Mutable Earth sign of the zodiac, is the only

astrological sign whose symbol depicts a woman. Virgo's symbol is the Virgin or
Maiden. The Virgo glyph symbol is similar to Scorpio's, but with an inward twist
