Mitigating The Impact of Some Natural Disasters Caused by Interaction Among

Spheres

Direction: Read the general problem/situation before coming up with your own
problem or situation you want to address.
Statistics about deaths caused by natural disasters

According to a study recently completed by researchers at the University of

South Carolina (and the very pretty pie chart above), 0.4% of all deaths caused by
natural disasters in the United States between 1970 and 2004 can be attributed to
wildfires. That 0.4% translates to 84 deaths, which is a very low number. According
to a study done by Dick Mangan for the Missoula Technology and Development Center,
from 1990 to 2006, 310 people died during wildland fire operations.
With this background information, you are task is to produce a prototype that
can help mitigate the effects of some harmful interaction among spheres. You may
want to post ads on billboards, make a video commercial, advocacy, brochure, or an
infographic. You are not limited to whatever you want to do to achieve your team
goal. You should be able to design/draw/animate/list a process/describe the service
of the idea that you have generated.
NOTE: PROTOTYPE is a simple experimental model of a proposed solution used to test or
validate ideas, designs, models, and other aspects of conceptualization quickly and cheaply so
that the designers involved can make appropriate refinements or possible changes in the
prototype. Prototypes can be in the form of 1) sketch drawing, 2) process, 3) service, or 4)
scaled-down model of the actual product, Advocacy, Digital drawing or Animation)
Your team must accomplish the following:
1. Choose and describe a specific scenario of Earth’s sphere interaction you want to
deal with.
2. Describe the scenario/event by explaining the interaction among spheres.
3. Describe the effects of the chosen interaction among spheres.
4. Cite specific events, which may come from experiences or readings, as to WHY you
want to give a solution to this certain scenario. (2pts.)
5. Describe the details of your prototype and how it works.
