1. How important is an organizational structure of bureaucracy in an organization like the school?

It is very important to have a bureaucratic organizational structure in the school setting. A

bureaucratic structure is meant to be orderly, fair and highly efficient – characteristics that an
organization like the school needs. Orderly from the day-to-day activities to the plans for the
school, fair in the decision-making processes for the school development and highly efficient in the
endeavors.

2. Why is school an important organization?

There are a lot of reasons why a school is an important organization in the community but I will
stress the very basic one: it is a place where students and teachers learn. Yes, the students can
start learning at home but formal education starts at school.

3. Cite an instance when you made use of technology in your teaching.

Since the start of the pandemic, every educational institution shifted to distance learning education,
either modular or online. In the first semester of academic year 2020-2021, I was handling the
Chemistry course of the first year Civil Engineering Students of Surigao del Sur State University –
Bislig Campus. One of my topics is portraying the different parts of the atomic structure and its
composition. It was very difficult to relate the topic with the students considering that atoms cannot
be seen by our naked eye. To fully grasp the topic, I used an app simulation posted online by the
University of Colorado. It can be accessed from this site:
https://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/build-an-atom
This is only one of many technology integrations I employed in my teaching.

4. In what way does a good school become an agent of social change?

There are characteristic and indicators that will tell us if a good school can become an agent of
change.
 Schools need to evolve and be a model of a good social institution.
 Good schools make an effort to serve all types of students by providing a good physical
and socio-emotional environment for all students.
 The school provide instructional support system to help students to learn effectively and to
develop curricular program to further enrich the knowledge and skills of the students.
 The school respects the ethnic and linguistic difference among students.

5. As a future educator, which methods of teaching do you prefer? Is it the traditional way or with the
use of gadgets and similar technology?
If the phrase “with the use of gadgets and similar technology” means opting to the online learning
industry, then I would rather choose the traditional way of face-to-face classes but using the
innovations of technology to enhance my teaching. The traditional face-to-face classes creates an
environment that a student needs in his school years, most importantly the ability to socialize in
person. Obviously, with the technology innovation explosion, and being born into this generation,
the use of gadgets and similar technology will greatly improve the learning process for both the
student and the teacher.

6. Cite and elaborate 2 strategies that leaders in schools could do to be effective in complex times.
I think these two strategies that I will be citing will encompass all other strategies that a leader can
do to be effective during complex times, like this pandemic.
 Be sensitive and adaptive. (It is essential for leaders to understand the change process.)
Complex times are almost always the times when one or two breaks down and unable to
work under stress. This is the time when the school leader should be able to be rally his or
her personnel and staff and motivate them to work effectively at the same time, being
sensitive to their needs or weaknesses.
 Allocate resources wisely and effectively. (Effective leaders seek coherence in everything
they do.)
It is very common in complex times that resources are scarce. An effective leader should
be able to allocate all his or her resources so that the school can still function as it is.

7. What strategies can administrators, teachers, and other personnel staff do to ensure success of
the school? Explain each strategy.
 Strong principal leadership
The leader is able to display strong leadership skills to rally his or her teachers, personnel
and staff to work on a common goal.
 Setting high expectations for students’ achievement
As the teachers are the one who spend time mostly with the students, we know them well
enough to set a high expectation that is achievable. We should not set high, impossible
expectations but instead high, achievable ones to promote motivation for students.
 Empowerment and providing positive support to teachers
Teachers are humans too, and are also susceptible to problems and stress. Empowering
them and providing them positive support will greatly improve teacher performance
because they know that their colleagues have their back.
 Creating a clear vision and mission
The vision will be the guiding star that leads the school to the horizon of excellence and
the mission will be the steps to achieve the vision.
 Monitoring students’ progress and teachers’ performance
It is important to monitor students’ and teacher performance to see how they are doing.
And to check, which area needs improvement, thus ultimately improving school quality.
 Establishing a positive school climate
A positive school climate will develop trust among the people in the school thus making
everyone comfortable, wanted, valued, accepted and secure. It also affects everyone from
the outside associated with the school.
 Establishing linkages and collaboration with parents, community and all stakeholders
This goes a long way considering that as an agent of social change, the school should be
very much involved in the community. This will create linkages and collaboration with other
agencies outside the school, which in turn, can help the school in achieving its vision and
mission.

8. Why are leadership and collaboration important in all education endeavors?

It is very hard to promote collaboration without one strong principal leadership acting in the center
of it. Leadership and collaboration goes hand in hand, especially in all education endeavors,
because a great leader can lead his staff and personnel to work in communion with each other.

9. Elaborate on the different perspectives in responding to the needs of a culturally diverse global
community.
We are a culturally diverse global community and it is imperative that students be immersed to
histories, languages, religious traditions and cultures of country other than our own. In the future,
these students will go on to join the work force of the world, and because of internationalization,
some may go on to work in other countries as well. As early as being a student, the school should
instill global perspective among the students, meaning being open-minded to other cultures, that
will lead to being appreciative and respective of them.

10. As a future educator, how would you react, and act, on bad criticism particularly on you and your
teaching?
As someone who has worked in the field for some time now, I’ve received a lot of bad criticism
about me and my teaching strategy. I must admit that they are all true and I took them by heart.
Even though I almost jeopardize my teaching career, I pushed on, continued teaching while slowly
improving myself and my teaching strategy. All those criticisms I had, I listened to them, checked
myself, then did whatever was necessary to correct those things that was criticized.

11. Define school culture and school climate.

School culture and school climate have been defined in a number of ways, and at times, have been
used interchangeably, but they are two distinct terms that goes together. School culture is the way
things are done in the school, the underlying norms and values that shape patterns of behavior,
attitudes. School climate is the feel of the school, the points of view exhibited and experienced by
students, teachers and other stakeholders. To help us understand them more, think of school
culture as the personality and school climate as the attitude. One drives and determines the other.

12. What do you think is the most applicable type of power to an educational organization based on
Weber’s bureaucratic model?
Legal, rule-oriented authority is an authoritative power that is based on normative rules for career
and hierarchy. I think this is the most applicable type of power to an educational organization
because power in this authority is given to people elected by voters, or in this case, selected based
on the standards set by that educational organization.

13. How can remuneration motivate employees to work harder?

Remuneration is about rewards and compensations to efforts that have been made which could be
in monetary or non-monetary forms that keeps employees motivated. This is very effective
especially to those underpaid employees who get no recognition for extra efforts. Giving monetary
rewards, or even just a simple token of appreciation for the hard work will ultimately motivate the
employee to work even harder.

14. Why is discipline important in a work place?

It’s not even a question why discipline is important in the work place. It is expected of us to be
discipline in the work place because it is the professional thing to do. It ensures that the employees
behave in a decent way acceptable in the workplace and at the same time adheres to the rules and
regulations of the organization.

15. What will happen if the teacher will not follow curriculum standards in their teaching procedure?
I think these curriculum standards in teaching procedure are established for a reason. Sure, there
might be times when we have to bend the standards to improve the learning process, but
completely not following them will likely subject the teacher to be called by the superiors. Of
course, there is a thin line between this. Any form of innovation that will benefit the students should
be welcomed, not discouraged. I think this question is subject to discussion considering that there
are two sides that will likely emerge and different implications will likely arise. What matters most
should be that the teaching procedure should greatly benefit the students, may it be by plainly
following the curriculum standards, or by adding some improvements to the curriculum standards,
or maybe you have a standard of your own that you can share.

16. Give your insight about having unity of direction in accomplishing organizational goal.
Unity of direction simply tells us basic teamwork strategy. “Team work makes the dream work” is a
good statement to explain this management principle.

17. How important is unity in an organization?

Unity is important in an organization because it allows all the members to give their very best in
their work without reservation. They work without reservation because they know that everyone is
committed to do their best, thus giving good results to the organization’s endeavors.
18. Why should management have a formal selection of workers in a particular organization?
There are certain qualities and standards a particular organization is looking for before hiring an
employee. That certain organization won’t just choose and handpick someone based on personal
reasons. The hiring process is a tedious work, requiring that organization to inform the public that
they are hiring, calling the applicants in for interviews, maybe a demonstration activity (especially in
the education industry), ranking all the applicants based on the quality and competency standards.
Every step of the process is formalized. Obviously, it is expected in the professional field.

19. How can one develop his or her own leadership skills?
There are a lot of ways one can develop his or her own leadership skills. The one thing that stands
up to me is taking initiative, and all other steps can follow. Taking initiative to improve yourself by
being a student of learning can help one’s self in many ways in the road to leadership.

20. How does adding 2 years in senior high school and 1 year in kindergarten strengthen the
knowledge of the learners with the adaptation in the society? How does this develop opportunities?
The K to 12 program of the Department of Education has raised a lot of eyebrows since its first
implementation. I, for one, have a lot of questions about the said program. But since I’ve witnessed
it firsthand when I taught in senior high school, this made me look back to the statement: “With K to
12, we will produce holistically developed learners who have 21 st century skills and are prepared
for higher education, middle level skills development, employment and entrepreneurship.” Yes,
there might be some flaws that needed improvement about the said program but I can’t deny the
fact that it has indeed lived up to its statement. Some of the students I had before are already
halfway through college, some are already utilizing what they learned in senior high school and are
now part of the working population. The K to 12 program has a long way to go, there will be
improvements, but I think it is off to a great start.
