PROPOSAL SUMMARY

1. Proposal Summary [Provide a brief one paragraph overview of the proposal, i.e. the idea and the problem it may solve and
brief project plan.]
The project envisages development of a cardiac resuscitation device to perform chest compression mechanically. In the event of a
cardiac arrest presently the teaching is to start compressing the chest at the lower end of sternum bone with the base of palm
manually. The sternum is supposed to be compressed to the extent of 4.5 to 5 cm. The force needed to compress the chest varies
from person to person based on their built. It is found that some people may need up-to 50 -70 kg force to produce an effective
compression. This manual compression though has the advantage of being easy to administer and can be started fast and by
anybody, anywhere. But has the disadvantage of person becoming fatigued over time and also difficult to perform in a moving vehicle
like land or air ambulance, or inside a diagnostic suite like the cath lab.The project envisages to develop a device which can perform
with same efficiency in all situations, and relieves a hand to perform other actions helping to save the life

Please upload a concept note explaining the technology with necessary figures and diagrams :

2. Briefly state the Objectives and Proposed Approach

[Describe how the proposed project addresses the problem. Clarify the current status of the innovation.]
The description should cover the following points:
1). Strategy and/or methodology of work.
2). Scope and boundaries of the work, including any issues that will not be covered.
3). Data analysis (sample size, data collection)
Objective:
The main objective of this project is to develop a mechanical chest
compression device , which can effectively perform chest compression
producing effective cardiac ejection till the person recovers.
Methodology:
During manual CPR, rescuers should perform chest
compressions to a depth of at least 2 inches 5 cm for an average adult, while
avoiding excessive chest compression depths greater than 2.4 inches [6 cm] .
The adult sternum should be depressed at least 2 inches 5 cm this can be done using our device, which has a piston which moves
up and down for 4-5 cm , at a frequency of 100 times per minute .
The force at which it moves should be adjustable as to deliver compression forces between 30 to 40 kg.
The compression should pause for a short duration after every 10 compression to deliver a breath mouth to mouth / ambu & mask
Scope:
Automatic compression can give the necessary compressions to the needed extend with same efficacy.
It occupies only a small space needed for the instrument and can be executed even in a speeding vehicle.
With minimal training anybody can operate it.
Hence it can be kept in public places, hospitals and ambulances

3. Novelty
[Explain how your idea is innovative and how it is different from the existing products in the markets or current
state-of-the-art. Tabular representation of the difference between your idea and the other products in market or competitive
product which are under development will be appreciated. Concrete market data is encouraged.]
The proposed project is based on CAM technology and is technically simple and can be maintained in any remote area with
less\r\nexpenditure. \r\nOverall it is cheaper and chance of injuring the individual is also less compared to the existing manual
method.View file

4. Opportunity
[What is the potential societal and market impact? Provide details of the problem you propose to solve.]
During manual CPR, rescuers should perform chest compression to a depth of at least 2 inches or 5 cm for an average adult, while
avoiding excessive chest compression depths greater than 2.4 inches [6 cm] .Our device has a piston which moves up and down for
5 cm , at a frequency of 100 times per minute .The force at which it moves will be adjustable as to deliver compression forces
between
30 to 40 kg. The device is also made in such a way that it can pause for a short duration after every 10 compression to deliver a
breath mouth to mouth / ambu & mask .

5. Challenges or risk factors associated with the project

[What are the challenges and risk factors that you envision which may affect this project?]
What are the critical success factors/potential barriers?
1.Currently market available motors are being used .We propose to tailor make the motor to the special needs of this device
– a
motor which can deliver a torque of 50 -70 kg at 100 rotations per minute and move the CAM.
2 To reduce the weight of the device and its assembly by using alternate materials like aluminium instead of the present prototype
which is made of mild steel.

6. Has any preliminary work been carried out? Give status of work done
If no, please provide the background details.
We have already done the prototype of the device in mild steel and we are currently using a 100 rpm motor of 20 N-m torque.

7. Please provide current and expected Technology Readiness Level (TRL)

Current TRL
TRL - 2
Basic principles observed and reported
Expected TRL
TRL - 8
Actual system completed and qualified through test and demonstration
8. Proposed end-outcomes (Your BIG Project is expected to result in the following end-outcomes ).
A Product for customers
9. Future Plan of Commercialization
[What do you envision to be the key next step to making impact with this innovation (e.g., sponsored research support,
licensing, venture financing)? What is the time frame?]
Commercialization plan should indicate :
1). Market entry strategy.
2). Timelines and Milestones.
3). Data analysis (sample size, data collection)
This device once operational and introduced into the market has a huge scope in market as
1. Can be attached to all ambulances both land and air ambulances.
2. Can be placed in all crowded areas as in railway station, bus stands , airports, markets and stadium during tournaments .
.3. In hospitals emergency departments, Intensive care units, as part of trolley of Code blue emergency team

10. Intellectual Property

i. Does the applicant or the applicant company own any IP related to this project. If yes, give details.(Please mention Patent
Number, Patent Title and Patent Assignee)
Under process

ii. List Of Patents That Appear To Cover Any Part Of The Technology Of Interest Or Similar (And Possibly Overlapping)
Technologies And Thereby Restrict The Freedom-To-Operate In The Envisaged Area.
(Please mention Patent Number, Patent Title and Patent Assignee)

5/12

iii. If there are patents that are overlapping and may restrict FTO, does the applicant have the required license/s to practise
these inventions for the purposes of the proposed project? Please provide license agreement details if any or provide
information of the proposed next steps to obtain said license/s.
