How to Take Care of our

Respiratory and
Circulatory System

Stop Smoking
By quitting smoking, you can: Lengthen
your life expectancy. Decrease your risk of
disease (including lung cancer, throat
cancer, emphysema, heart disease, high
blood pressure, ulcers and reflux, erectile
and sexual dysfunction, kidney disease,
and other conditions)

Exercise
During exercise, the body uses more
oxygen and produces more carbon dioxide
due to the muscles working harder. To
cope with this extra demand, the body
responds by breathing deeper and more
often to take in the oxygen needed.

Eat Healthy Foods

Eating the right foods and nutrients can
give us energy to stay active throughout
the day, supports our immune system and
improve our health—even our lung health!
The right nutrients in your diet can help
you breathe easier, and in some cases,
help minimize asthma symptoms.

Balance Diet
It’s important to eat a nutritionally
balanced and varied diet, and to maintain
a healthy body weight. If you have a lung
condition, eating well is especially
important. Foods and fluids contain
essential nutrients to help prevent
infections and keep your lungs healthy.

Avoid Indoor and

Outdoor Air pollution
For people with chronic respiratory disease
like COPD, reduction of exposure to indoor
and outdoor air pollution can reduce the
risk for acute exacerbation of COPD. For
asthma patients, less exposure can reduce
the onset of asthma.
