Gender differences indeed affect one's musical taste. In my case, I find it sometimes

awkward listening to certain songs for example RNBs. This is because I tend to think that they

are mostly meant to be sung by ladies. Out of all the available genres of music, I always find

myself listening to particular groups only. As a man, I always like listening to music that has

some masculine aspects in it for example listening to reggae and ragga. This was not the case as I

was growing up but at the time that I was young, I would listen to all manner of songs. Right

now, I am a bit mature and as a man, I would like people to see that I am capable of choosing

what I want.

For instance, it is culturally not right for a man to be invested too much in emotions

because this act would reflect badly on how the community views them. This reason will always

make men choose the songs and genre preferences that do not contain emotional ties in them. In

addition, men are always held with high caliber in our society and a clear line has to exist to

differentiate the men and the young people. In my teenage, I was so much excited about riddims

and dancehall but right now the morale for these songs is going down as I continue to grow up

because I am becoming more man than I was before.
