Module 3 - Human Development
Complete the sentence.
1. With regards to the nurture-nature, continuity-discontinuity, change-stability controversies, the
wiser stand is to ensure that you comprehend what is being addressed and that the question
correctly provides you with a viable option. As William Greenough said, and I quote: “The
interaction of hereby and environment is so extensive that to ask which is more important, nature or
nurture, is like asking which is more important to a rectangle, height or width.” as I read this words
carefully, I came up with a neutral judgement to this controversy. It's vital to understand how
abstract notions like comfort and logic vs emotion connect to everyday experiences. That is why I
think there should be a balance of respect on this topic.

As far as our discussing are concerned, which statement is correct and which one is wrong? Put a
check (✓) before the correct statement and (✘) mark the wrong one. If you mark a statement (✘),
explain why.

- Explanation: Behavior, routines, personality and ethics are deeds that can be
fluctuated.

✓ 3. From the perspective of life-span developmentalist, later experiences are the key
determinants of a person’s development.

9. It is not worth conducting research considering the time and money it requires ✓

TEST YOUR UNDERSTANDING:

Write “T” if the statement is CORRECT and “F” if the statement is WRONG.

T 1. Quality research adheres to the scientific method.

F 2. For research on child and adolescent development to serve its ultimate purpose, researchers
must be governed by ethical principles.

T 3. Which research design and data-gathering technique to use has nothing to do with the nature
of research problem and objective/s of the research.

T 4. Teachers are both procedures of knowledge when they conduct research and are consumers or
end users of knowledge.
REFLECTION
It is said that because teachers are overloaded with work, they usually frown on the conduct of
research. Reflect on the consequences of this attitude. What can be done to prevent this? Write
your reflection here.

As a student, I can relate myself in this situation. There are times that we are given a task or asked to
do something but its lacking with politeness. I believe that being polite towards others has a huge
impact on their response towards the given task. Frowning towards a given task is a negative asset to
have as an educator, that’s why it is important to have an optimistic personality at all times. Another
thing to consider is the teachers’ emotional state. Not everyone can tolerate the stress that they’re
receiving under pressure on a daily basis. We do not know what he/she have been through.
To prevent this type of scenarios to happen, we must consider this factors. And for the teachers’ side,
they must maintain a presence of mind in any situation.
