The GRADE reading assessment provides data as to how the student is performing in
several areas of reading, specifically, vocabulary, sentence comprehension, listening
comprehension, and passage comprehension. The GRADE can be used from preK to adult. This
assessment can be used to assess different areas of comprehension as well as vocabulary.
Assessors can use this information to monitor progress or make intervention decisions.
Jan was at a 2.8 grade level equivalent for comprehension (both sentence and passage
comprehension combined). This indicates that Jan would likely benefit from intensive
interventions and additional testing to find where the deficits come from that cause the
difficulties with comprehension. There are a variety of strategies that Jan would benefit from
using. For vocabulary, she was at a 5.2 grade level which is significantly higher than expected.
This indicates that Jan is frequently exposed to a variety of vocabulary. Overall, Jan scored a 3.6
grade level equivalent on the assessment.

EasyCBM.com is a free website that provides a variety of resources in order to help educators
assess students' present levels of performance. For this assessment we utilized EasyCBM.com’s
oral passage reading fluency worksheet as well as their online multiple choice reading
comprehension in which Jan read a passage, then answered 20 multiple choice questions. Jan
was able to read the grade 7 oral passage reading fluency at 102 words correct per minute, this
puts her in the 12th percentile rank for grade 7 students for words correct per minute. For the
multiple choice reading comprehension section, Jan answers 12 out of the 20 questions correctly,
putting her in the 58th percentile rank for grade 7 students for reading comprehension.
Conclusion
Overall, Jan was able to complete the assessments with no difficulty. Jan was able to take the
assessments in their entirety. Jan displayed an overall good attitude and cooperated with myself
(the assessor). The GRADE assessment indicates that Jan would benefit from continued support
in the areas reading comprehension and oral reading fluency. Beyond the normal schooling, I
think Jan would benefit from intensive one on one interventions in order to fill in some of the
gaps in her reading knowledge.
