Introduction Bioinformatics is an applied science that uses computer programs to
access biology databanks to make inferences about the information
contained within the data archives. The purpose of this course is to
introduce undergraduate students to learn techniques used in
bioinformatics and ensure that they master in the technical skills necessary
to be competitive in the market. Before getting deep in to the subject, as
the starting steps, Students will learn a little bit about biology; genetics
and genomics to be specific. This will include studying about basic
terminologies and then will learn briefly about genes, DNA, RNA, protein
structures, various databases and tools etc. This course is comparatively
new subject but modern biological and medical research and development
cannot be done without bioinformatics. Today’s job industry is full of
vacancies for people with skills in bioinformatics. Major pharmaceutical,
biotech and software companies are seeking to hire professionals with
experience in bioinformatics where they will be working with huge
amounts of biological and health care information. A major application of
bioinformatics can be found in the fields of precision
medicine and preventive medicine. Precision medicine consists of health
care techniques customized for individual patients, including treatments
and practices. Rather than treating or curing diseases, precision medicine
focuses of developing measures to prevent diseases.
