I. One of the main activities of an industrial/organizational psychologist is to:

c. advise a company’s personnel office on how to select among job applicants.

II. Describe at least 3 methods used in Psychological Research.

a. Naturalistic Observation is a method used in psychological research in which
the spontaneous behavior of the subject is being observe in a natural
environment. This means that the researcher may monitor the subject in their
workplace, home or in a public place without making significant alteration to
the daily activity of the subject. The approach involves examining how the
subject interact with others in their community and natural surrounding.
b. Laboratory Observation is a method in psychological research that observe
the behavior of the subject in a designed and controlled environment. This
approach uses laboratory as a setting in conducting the research. It does not
necessarily mean a scientific laboratory, but it is any place that provides an
opportunity for experimentation and observation. The method useful to a
study that cannot be conducted in a naturalistic approach.
c. Case study is described as an intensive and in-depth analysis of a subject. It
has a systematic investigation that leads to a further and better understanding
on the person, group or events. The method is used to examine the problem
in a deeper sense, not just in the observable side of the subject. This means
that there are multiple references needed to support the claims of the study.

III. Differentiate random sampling from convenience sampling.

Random sampling is a subset of an individual randomly selected to
represent an entire group. In a random sample, there is an equal probability that
an individual could be chosen to be part of the study. This method of sampling
allows an unbiased data collection which means that it does not involve any
human judgment to select the participants. Random sampling requires a
sampling frame.

On contrary, convenience sampling is selecting respondents that does not

involve equal probability rather it is based on the availability or convenient
accessibility of the respondent. It involves human judgment on selecting
individual. Convenience sample does not require sampling frame.
