QN: HOW CAN THE QUALITY OF A LEADER BE MEASURED?

IN OTHER WORDS,
WHAT MAKES A LEADER GREAT??
The quality of leadership is measured on certain factors like the clarity of thoughts,
communication judgement about people and personal integrity or commitment. The good
leaders have strong interpersonal skills, and they should also be good motivators.
As the quote says “True leaders don’t create followers, they create more leaders.” A
great leader sets a smart goal and they also inspire other members to join them and trains
them. The good leader identifies the strengths and weaknesses of every team member and
encourages them in achieving the goal. The good leader trains every follower to become an
individual leader and work on their own.
Let us see in detail about the factors
CLARITY OF THOUGHT AND COMMUNICATION:
A good leader should think effectively and communicate clearly. The vision of the
goal should be very precise that helps other members of the team to work towards it.
Communication is the core principle in leadership and it is the main key feature of a good
leader. Effective communication and effective leadership are intertwined. Internal
communications help in developing a great rapport with the members which also helps in
making them emotionally connected.
JUDGEMENT ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE:
Leaders should have great intuition about people when it comes to giving power and
responsibility. It is the leader’s role to make good judgements- well informed, wise decision
to provide an expected outcome. The leader’s judgement will directly reflect on the
company’s result.
PERSONAL INTEGRITY OR COMMITMENT:
Integrity means standing beyond oneself rather than being motivated by one’s narrow
personal interests. Personal behaviours like favouritism, conflicts of interests, inappropriate
language and work relationships etc. Commitment is having the courage to change oneself so
that the leader becomes a model for others.
Another factor that makes a leader good is feedback. It helps employees to achieve their
goals. It helps to build trust between the leader and the employee and it increases their
working skills. One common tool is the multifactor leadership questionnaire (MLQ) which is
the widely used tool for measuring leadership style. The skills are also be measured with
subscales like idealised influence, inspirational motivation. Intellectual stimulation and
individualised consideration.
