Overview
The Quidway® NetEngine 80E core router (“NE80E” hereinafter) is based on the distributed
hardware forwarding structure. In addition to the Main Processing Unit (MPU) and the Switch Fabric
Unit (SFU), it has multiple types of Line Processing Units (LPUs).
The LPU board is composed of the LPU module, the Fabric Adaptor (FAD) module and the Physical
Interface Card (PIC), which together complete fast service processing and forwarding,
maintenance and management of link layer protocols and service forwarding tables, and other
functions.
The main functions of the modules are given as follows:
I. LPU
z Encapsulation and processing of multiple types of link layer protocols (such as Ethernet II and
PPP)
z Data packet flow classification and data packet filtering used for user traffic monitoring and
access control list.
z Data cache management and dispatch function
z Data forwarding based on the forwarding table
z Control protocol packet identification and forwarding to the active CPU for processing via the
non-wire speed processing interface
II. FAD
z Traffic management. It completes data queuing and cache based on the input data traffic
classification, and dispatches the cached data according to the congestion in the switching
network.
z Switching network interface adaptation.
z A part of the switching network. It implements traffic control according to the queue status to
ensure that no data is lost inside the switching network.
III. PIC
The PIC card provides physical interface processing of service interfaces, including
optical/electrical conversion and physical layer processing. Please refer to the descriptions of the
interface boards for details.
