MAKING
CARDS FOR
FRONTLINE
WORKERS
Decorate and write cards to
encourage those working in the
frontlines against the virus
WHAT WAS
DONE WELL
AND COULD BE
DONE BETTER?
The number of cards made
exceeded initial
expecations: we sent out
two batches instead of
one! The cards were also
handwritten; thus, we
believe that it brought a
more sincere message to
our frontline workers.
However, we could have
written the notes with
DINING HALL
DECORATIONS
THE DINING
6B1 HALL IS NOW
NEATLY
ORGANIZED!
We finished making signs for all tables and added decorations of
small flower pots, vases and plushies on the tables for a more
animated atmosphere! The hall now looks much brighter and
organized as boarders can see the signs clearly propped up on their
seating areas. However, as there were not enough decorations at
first, some tables had to take less distinctive ones. We could have
prepared more materials for the whole area.
CLEAR UP
RUBBISH IN
NEARBY
PARKING
LOT
We came to the nearby
parking lot and loaded 3 full
bags of rubbish scattered
arounf the area
ALL CLEAR!
Despite having only three
people, we cleared the parking
lot in about 2 hours, filling our
trash bags to the brim! It was a
greatly fulfilling experience,
having been able to help the
community by cleaning up a
public area. On the contrary, we
should have brought trolleys or
other wheeled vehicles to help
transfer the heavy bags, as we
had some difficulty in moving
them to another area.
CLEAN
DINING
HALL
CORNER
We cleaned rows of chairs,
a pool table, a sofa, etc
TIRING, BUT
WORTH IT
We cleaned about 10 stacks of
chairs, swept and mopped the floor,
cleaned the pool table, corner table,
foosball table, 2 boards and a small
couch until they were spotless! We
sympathise with our hall cleaners
much more now after the tasks. Their
stamina are largely admirable!
However, as there was no air
conditioning at the time of our VIA,
the amount of work left us all tired.
Thus, we could have brought electric
fans and our water bottles along with
us for faster progress.
LESSONS:
There are people who are silently
contributing to our community,
whether it is healthcare workers
leading us through the pandemic or
janitors keeping our environment
clean. By actively helping them with
their jobs through the
aforementioned VIAs, I learned to
become more grateful and
sympathetic towards these silent
heroes, appreciate their efforts
more and bring awareness to their
struggles especially during this hard
time.
