METAPARADIGM

 
PERSON
 Individuals are spiritual being and rational thinker who makes decisions and choose between
alternative courses of action.
 Individuals have the ability to record their history through their own language and symbols.
 Individuals are unique, holistic, of intrinsic worth, and capable of rational thinking and decision
making in most situations.
 Individuals have different needs, wants and goals.
 
HUMAN NEEDS
 King identified in the theory of goal attainment the three (3) basic health needs of man/person:
1. The need for the health information that is unable at the time when it is needed and can be
used.
2. The need for care that seek to prevent illness.
3. The need for care when human being are unable to help themselves.
HEALTH
 Health is dynamic and constantly changing, requiring continuous adjustments to stressors in the
internal and external environment through optimal utilization of resources to achieve maximum daily
living potential.
ENVIRONMENT
 "Environment is defined as the process of balance involving internal and external interactions inside
the social system. Reactions from the interaction between the internal and external environment can be
biological, psychological, physical, social or spiritual".
 King believed that, "an understanding of the ways that human beings interact with their environment
to maintain health was essential for nurses".
 Open systems imply that interactions occur constantly between the system and the system's
environment
 Furthermore, "adjustments to life and health are influences by (an) individual's interaction with
environment".
 "Each human being perceived the world as a total person in making transactions with individuals and
things in the environment".
 
NURSING
 "Nursing is a process of action, reaction, and interaction by which nurse and client share information
about their perception in a nursing situation."
 An action between nurse and client wherein they share specific goals, problems, and concerns and
explore means to attain a goal.
 In addition, King also discusses the following:
o Goal of nurse: "To help individuals and groups attain, maintain, and regain a healthy state".
o Domain of nurse: "includes promotion of health, maintenance and restoration of health, care
of the sick and injured, and care of the dying”.
o Function of professional nurse: "To interpret information in nursing process to plan,
implement and evaluate nursing care".
