Neil What did you do at the weekend, Rachel?
Rachel Oh, I went to the cinema with Matt, my boyfriend.
Neil Oh right. What did you see?
Rachel Er … oh, I can’t remember. It was a film Matt wanted to
see. He told me it was good so I went with him. Erm …
I think it was End of the Night.
Neil End of the Night? I don’t know it. Are you sure that was the
name?
Rachel Well …
Neil Or was it End of the Day?
Rachel Yes. That’s it. Sorry. I’m terrible with names.
Neil That’s OK. What did you think of it? Did you like it?
Rachel No. It was awful. Matt really liked it, of course. But I
didn’t. The actors were good but the story was terrible.
Neil Who was in it?
Rachel Oh … er … Julia Knight was in it. She played a beautiful
lawyer called Mary. And Jack Pitt. He played a young
doctor called Tom. In the film, Tom loved Mary, but she
didn’t love him.
Neil OK. I really don’t like romantic films. I’m glad I didn’t see
it.

John What did you think of the play, Sarah?
Sarah Oh, I thought it was great.
John Really?
Sarah Yes. Why? Didn’t you, John?
John Well, no, to be honest. I really didn’t like it at all.

Petra Are there any pictures in your bedroom, Jack?
Jack Sure. There’s a picture near my desk, and there are two
other pictures on the wall near the door.
Petra What are the pictures of?
Jack Well, there’s one of a train, one of a beautiful view of the
mountains, and the picture near the desk is a photo I
took when I was on holiday.

Peter Do you live in a village, Jenny?
Jenny Yes.
Peter Are there any bars or restaurants in the village?
Jenny Well, there’s a bar. And there was a really good Chinese
restaurant, but it closed two years ago.
Peter Oh, what a pity.

Sandra Where’s Tom?
Patrick I don’t know, Sandra. Did you call him?
Sandra Well, I called his house in the afternoon. But he wasn’t in.
I spoke to his sister but I didn’t speak to him.
Patrick Oh dear. Perhaps he doesn’t know what time we wanted
to meet.

Simon Where did you stay?
Donna At the Hotel Central.
Simon Was it good?
Donna Well, no, not really. The room was small and cold, and
well, there was a telephone in the room but there wasn’t a
television.
