Carl Did you have a nice weekend, Anna?
Anna Yes. It was great. It was different. My husband Paul and I
usually stay at home, phone friends, and read newspapers
at the weekend, but last weekend, believe it or not, we went
to a rock festival.
Carl A rock festival? Wow.
Anna Yeah. My children stayed at my parents for the weekend,
and Paul and I went to a rock festival.
Carl Good for you. Was it fun?
Anna Well, yes. We had a great time. Well, Saturday was great. It
was sunny and warm, and the bands were fantastic. But the
next day wasn’t so good. It rained in the afternoon and I
was tired. But it was OK.
Carl Oh, right. So how long were you there?
Anna Well, actually, the festival started on Friday but we didn’t
want to stay for two nights. I don’t like camping very
much! So, we missed the first night. We got there on
Saturday morning and left late on Sunday. The traffic was
terrible when we left so we didn’t get home until half past
eleven.
Carl Who did you see?
Anna Oh, an African band I didn’t know, but they were really
good. Then there was an Australian band … Actually, no,
there wasn’t. I thought they were Australian but they were
English. And then …
Carl Don’t you know the names of any bands?
Anna Oh, I know. I’m terrible with names. OK. I know there
weren’t any American bands. But we did see K T Tunstall
and a band called The Feeling. They were great.

Mr Gould No. U-L-D. And it’s Bryan with a Y not an I.
Receptionist Ah, OK. B-R-Y-A-N.
Mr Gould Yes, that’s right.
Receptionist OK. Sorry about that, Mr Gould. You’re in room 207.

Tina How are you going to get to Cardiff, Sam?
Sam I know. It’s a real problem. I can’t drive there because my
car’s at my parents’ house. So it’s the bus.
Tina But the train’s very fast and comfortable. Take the train,
Sam.
Sam Yes, but it’s expensive. And I bought my bus ticket yesterday.
So, that’s how I’m going to get there. I hope.

Patrick Who did you meet at David’s party, Jo?
Jo Oh, well I met his mum but I didn’t meet his dad. He was
away on business, I think. And I met his brother Jack.
And Jack’s new girlfriend. And a lot of David’s friends
from university. It was a good party and interesting to
meet everybody.

Bob What do you like doing at the weekend, Rachel?
Rachel Well, I work really hard from Monday to Friday, so, for
me, weekends are for relaxing.
Bob And how do you relax?
Rachel Well I don’t often go out in the evening. I prefer staying at
home and cooking nice food and watching a good film
on DVD.
Bob So, no sport.
Rachel No – I go to exercise classes in the week, but at weekends
I’m lazy!

Receptionist Would you like a single or double room?
Mr Wise Oh, a double please. With a sea view. And a TV in
the room.
Receptionist Oh, I’m sorry. There aren’t any rooms with a sea
view. But we have a double with a TV and a shower,
with a view of the town. It’s a nice view. You can’t
see the sea but you can see the castle.
Mr Wise Oh, OK – that’s fine. How much is it?
